Bojan, no it's not, you know, checked on Saturday when I was left in front of closed doors. I also wanted to report and write that Dom na Kališču is closed, so always those collecting stamps, and it's part of SPP too, but @jprim beat me to it. Goran has said goodbye, no other caretaker though. Don't know how they'll solve this pickle, they could have at least duty shifts to sell at least drinks.

Yes, Polona, very sad what's happening with this hut. Less than a decade ago the most besieged on winter weekends with us, Goran obviously not the right person for this activity, Tanja can't manage alone either.

Why am I actually writing to you?
Yesterday's rambling in the hills, which was of course great, but my husband and I were really disappointed that the hut was closed. There could be some sign at the parking in Mače that the hut is closed. If I'd known, I'd have planned our hiking tour differently. Sure it's posted online, but we're older hikers and not so dependent on social networks.
Special story is the parking lot which no longer exists at all, from a local woman we learned that the parking owner wanted agreement with the municipality, probably regarding parking payment. Agreement not reached, so owner probably deliberately hauled heaps of sand and gravel. Wanted to park higher then, but road in big potholes, so didn't go further. Parked in the forest, ...
We set off to Hudičev boršt, direction Dolga Njiva, to top of Mali Grintavec, then to Kališče. Wanted something to drink and eat.
Can only comment on the hut's tidiness. Better put photo of current hut state on your website, I'd say everything is in total ruin, from pavers, splintered benches, overgrown surroundings ...
About unmaintained paths, don't even feel like writing.

Tone, I agree. The club could organize regarding duties if it was in their interest to earn at least something with drinks. Also on Kriška it was organized like that in winter, and they managed. This means it's obviously not in their interest. Really sad. Even worse they didn't publish it anywhere, not on their site, not on PZS. Last weekend many cursed them who came for the stamp, stamp behind closed doors

The hut opens from 1.7. So it said on the doors. With a little delay they noted it.

I hiked there on Saturday too and totally agree with you. We talked with a local who is here almost every weekend but didn't know it's closed. Then he called some acquaintance regarding the notice.

Societies consist of individuals - volunteers who sacrifice heaps of their free time and good will for their operation. Should think before criticizing them just like that all over, right.

@Evjuna, if we write that the hut is closed, is that criticism?? Isn't that the actual situation fitting the current circumstances?? I'm just saying it would be correct for PD Kranj to post on their website that the hut is closed, so people know and don't go to these parts if collecting SPP stamps.
On Sunday angry Styrians arrived at Poljane, who drove from afar to go past Kališče to Storžič, as they collect SPP stamps. They have it from Storžič, but not from Dom na Kališču and will have to come once more. If they knew the hut was closed, they'd probably choose another tour. Maybe sometimes think also of those who drive to our neck of the woods from far away and not just the poor volunteers in clubs. By the way, I'm one of them too, and I don't think it's right the hut is just closed now without any notice (closed since Kljuke ended). Happy trails.

Yes, I also drive pretty far, on average we need about 2 hours driving or even more for a single tour.
We don't do traverses, but we like to stop at huts.

But those of you who go up there more often, just let us know if it will really open after 1.7., as I plan to go up with younger son ... otherwise I'll call for lodging anyway, but thanks in advance for easier tour planning.

Whoever goes hiking just to collect stamps, better stay home... about the volunteer work mentioned, instead of turning to the club if they need help in that regard, only negative criticisms everywhere.. shame, have we mountaineers really become such whiners?
