smrekow@, you kidding right? If true then really sad how irresponsible some are. Sorry for you.

Nice day, jure

@smrekow; better to skate, it'll be better for you than doing stupid things (though I don't believe your story anyway...). lp.sas

And those Belgians from Mangart, are they some relatives of yours, or did you recommend this friendly tour to them yourself?

Everything that's right: even if this were just a fantasy story (you know how we wrote fantasy essays in school, this doesn't belong on this website. Some eager beaver might really try to repeat such a "feat". If you, dear "mountaineer", really carried this out in practice, then it's really high time GRS starts charging for mountain rescues. Such stupidities can have catastrophic consequences. And if you expected us all to congratulate you on this feat, you were mistaken. And last but not least: read some mountaineering literature. Good luck anyway.

Today Peter and I set off from Dom pod Storžičem through the Fifth Gully to the summit and descended the same way. The path through the forest to the chute is dry, without crampons you can walk nicely to the junction for Kramarjeva gully, further it's wise in my opinion to put on crampons and take ice axe in hand. The path ascends nicely on frozen snow on the chute, through the gully itself a bit frozen, at the top of the gully granular snow. Above the gully exit the sun caught us, so the snow softened a lot. Summit a bit windy, descent without issues. Recommend helmet, one projectile whistled past my head. Regards Andrej

hey, if you mean Storžič, it's like this, I was up on the summit on 2.5.08, ice axe needed up to about 150m below summit, now in my opinion no need, or rather as seen from below almost no snow, so go ahead boldly

hey, I didn't mean that it's not needed, in winter it's essential, and I always carry ice axe and crampons. Just when I was up there was some snow, now almost none left, crampons not needed. In the western gully it's mandatory anyway, even due to the steepness. Nice greetings and stay safe.

I'd like to ask something. I'm a mountain runner and wonder if Storžič has a nice path for running. Is it worth running up for training?nasmeh

Up there lots of mountain runners go for training, though I think only to the hut at Kališče, I haven't met any higher yet.nasmeh

I know they go up that steep hill to Kališče and even to the top, there's even a race in winter (winter league). Others already told me you can train there so I'm asking here if it's true. We'll try this year and see right away how it is.velik nasmeh

What are the conditions on the path from Kališče to Storžič summit, on the so-called easiest southern path? Snow? Can it already be done without winter gear?

If you find any snow to the top, you'll at most be glad you can cool off a bit with it. From the valley no patch of snow is visible. Less than three weeks ago there was only a little snow right below the summit.
This of course applies to the southern approach. On the north side in the gullies conditions are surely still fully winterly.

Can someone tell me what the path to Storžič from Poljane over Psico along the ridges is like, back over Škarjev rob? How much snow is left?
like
serajko31. 05. 2008 21:33:44
Storžič from Poljane side via Psico is practically snow-free. In the gully from Javorniška planina only at some spots at the gully bottom a little snow. Descent from Storžič summit to Škarjev rob only at "zajlah" still a bit snowy, but completely safe since the snow is already soft in the forenoon!
Checked 31.5.08

Thanks a lot for the answer, on Saturday we'll head up there, but since I haven't been from that side yet, I'm interested if it's marked? We're going from the hut under Storžič and how much walking to the top. Thanks Vesna

Path from hut under Storžič, via Žrel to top is difficult secured path. Nicely marked, walking time three hours. Lp Franc
