This morning from Mače via Kališče and Bašelj pass along the ridge to the top. Snow starts down at Bašelj pass. To the top about 3/4 path bare. Snow on path mostly southern. Where path not bare there are tracks in snow, at a couple spots need to climb a bit to get to bare path. Just in case good to have ice axe when crossing a couple snowfields and in upper part when ascending steep grass (few meters to get back to path). Storžič was almost entirely in fog today, so in such conditions need some sense of orientation. Judging by logbook few visits to top, anyway I was the only one on top in morning, others turned halfway.

Nice greetings! Tomorrow I plan to go to Storžič from home below Storžič, so interested what's the path like via Žrelo and Škarjev rob, if there's still snow and at what altitude it starts. Do I maybe need crampons too. Can someone reply asap Thanks!!

How about the path through the gorge? Possible without crampons too?

View of the passage over Škarje all in snow, how it is with Žrelo, I don't know, probably winter gear is still needed. Maybe someone else will give you more precise information, but I think mine will hold too. LP!

On May 1st the road was dry and in good condition. Just don't get scared of the first few hundred meters like I did and walk to the end. The higher you go, the better the road is. From the intersection where left turnoff to Sv. Lovrenc, ca. 10-15 min. walk to end of road.

Is there still a lot of snow on the path to Storžič through Žrelo?

For Žrelo I don't know, was with girlfriend on Sunday, we had to turn back below big snowfield, went via Škarjev rob, but ahead of us 4 had already turned back too, all without winter gear (unfortunately), think through Žrelo even worse...

When I went yesterday from Poljana to the top, it was on the ridge where the path from Žrelo joins looking quite nasty, at least an avalanche had gone off recently. Otherwise, not much snow was visible, but I think it's still too early. Lp

Early departure from home at 3.30, aiming to conquer Kranjski očak, I head out from Bašelj village. The path all the way to Kališče very muddy and slippery. While drinking tea, I watch it through the window wrapped in fog and nothing indicated the fog would lift. Even after a good hour of ascent, Storžič was still in the embrace of the white lady (fog, no mistake), which persisted even after my departure from beautiful Gorenjska.

With my son today we headed through Žrelo to the top. In Žrelo rock dry despite yesterday's storms, fixed protection in good condition, no snow (you can touch it without stepping on it). Winter gear unnecessary, helmet yes. On the ridge visibility to Ljubljana, top didn't remove its foggy cap. Path over Škarjev rob nicely cleared of fallen trees and scree after this year's avalanche winter. Into the inner rooms of Dom pod Storžičem at 12h (for well-deserved refreshment) light drizzle chased us.

So despite the wet-muddy path, is there no major risk of slipping?

The path along the ridge (over Psica) where there are some exposed spots wasn't even muddy as water drains quickly from the ridge. So I had no issues due to mud. It's more slippery in the lower part through forest and scree, where the path isn't exposed.
