Different sellers, providers, different descriptions of very useful crampons for me. They are always in my backpack with me and used multiple times for secure step on mid-mountains and village hills, which quickly ice over due to mass visitsmežikanje But yeah, everyone knows for themselves what they need and how much they will carry eek

Of course it must be emphasized that the qualification "top crampons" for such products from the seller/manufacturer is very misleading...

nasmeh¨¨Crampons are not suitable for high mountains¨¨, it says in detailed Roman's description. Viševnik is a two-thousander (and definitely falls into high mountains), which in demanding winter conditions can be quite harsh.nasmeh

Yes it is a two-thousander, but easily accessible two-thousander that anyone with at least some fitness conquers and for the route to it small crampons suffice, if you go from Rudno polje via ski slope up, if via Srenjski preval then I recommend professional crampons and ice axe. In demanding winter conditions Šmarna is even toughervelik nasmeh

In the never-ending debate on whether to use microspikes or crampons for high-mountain tours, this question arises for me. Does the slightly higher weight of crampons bother people, or do these people not know how to use the ice axe, which we must use obligatorily when walking with crampons? I strongly doubt that those walking with microspikes also use an ice axe simultaneously!

Regarding "microcrampons", crampons......this article is recommended for some. Each description has at least 1 product link and you can see how the thing looks.

@lijaneja, true, but they also state "...suitable for walking every step, whether in mountains, on powder snow or packed snow..."
That they are not suitable for high mountains they put right at the bottom of the description/ad, "topness" at the top... And the warning on unsuitability in high mountains is misleading too - you don't need high mountains to hit icy surfaces where you have no place with such "chains", not even on Rožnik.
And this "suitability for more demanding users" isn't fully clear to me either..

True, first need to teach hikers to be aware of usage limits of such products. But pointing out such or otherwise misleading advertising that can be potentially dangerous is also important.

I never use ice axe with small crampons, always walk only with poles or without, because I use small crampons where no ice axe needed due to slip and never seen on Viševnik, Debeli peči, Ratitovcu, Blegošu and similar peaks anyone with ice axe and small crampons. And I bet my head that if gave professional crampons to all going to these peaks half would break theirs on way down.nasmeh

I don't know why I'd use crampons there where I don't need crampons.
Maybe because a "small slip" is possible?zmeden

I see the debate (as often on the forum) went in a different direction from intended. I have full gear and know how to use it. Interested only because someone in group has only SMALL CRAMPONSvelik nasmeh so wanted conditions to see if we go there or elsewhere. Thanks.

Then you'll go somewhere else. On the path to Viševnik, small crampons are deadly dangerous for that "someone" since a slip is possible.

How much "arguing" and nonsense, everyone knows best what to use, right? If someone thinks 12-tooth crampons are suitable, let him put them on; if "Šmarnogorske crampons" are enough for someone, then let him put them on and the debate is over.
The only thing I agree with is that for the ascent from Rudno polje past the cable car and Plesišče, an ice axe really is not needed; if someone likes carrying it, let him have it.

We're going up past the cable car on Saturday. Won't claim, but gear might stay on the back, at least usual end of March when path trodden and day heavily melted, nice day expected. If not to top, then sun on saddle and snacknasmeh to valley.

Today to top some with crampons some without. Use is matter of personal judgment. No sinking, not too slippery, day heavily melted, very warm almost no wind. Ridge below summit and summit almost no snow. Few visitors at least for exceptional day. Solid ice on road below, right as entering forest. Go a bit off path and it's ok.
Good luck

I'm not sure about the snow (probably ok to go up normally) but I'd warn you that today the road to Pokljuka was closed from the Bled side (detour via Bohinj end). Apparently around Mrzli studenec they're renovating the road. Don't know exactly how long and when it's closed..
