On Sunday we were at Viševnik. The path was completely dry. The road is open on weekends, so we didn't need a detour. Good luck, nice and safe path!nasmeh

On Saturday we went to Viševnik from Rudno polje. As expected, most of the path was baking in the sun, surprisingly stuffy even among the bushes. From the top of course excellent views all around.

Hello! Does anyone have experience with the ascent of a four-year-old child to Viševnik? Or is there another two-thousander more suitable?

It all depends on how accustomed the child is: whether at that age they can do 700m elevation without issues and are used to moving on steep and somewhat exposed slopes. For our youngest, Viševnik at 4 was no problem. But one needs to be careful on the summit grassy slope. If exposure and steepness are the issue, then on Pokljuka Debela peč or Brda are more suitable, and also almost two-thousander like Mrežce.

Otherwise we're a lot in the hills. So far the highest peaks are Porezen and Šavnik. For son (6 years) no worry - enough condition, daughter (4 years) has less condition. Both have lots of joy and look forward. Probably we'll go to Mrežce.. Now one week in Bohinj on vacation and we'll try to use nice weather.

@modrooki, in the June Planinski vestnik I saw that Stritarjeva have published this year at Sidarta the book ¨Z otroki v gore¨. It has 240 pages, price 31.90€. I think it's worth browsing.

Weather dictates fate and time for mountain tours. On Sunday we set off to Pokljuka only in the afternoon to catch the sunny Viševnik as shown by the Uskovnica camera. Although we walked fast, clouds were faster and on top under cloudy sky it was cold and windy. Path mostly slippery, especially the slope under Plesišče where there's mud. Otherwise all as usual. I was also on Viševnik on Sunday, since due to unpredictable weather I didn't dare go on a longer tour. We can avoid the worst mud if we go via Kačji rob and Srenjski preval. The sun showed up for a whole 20 minutes, on the return it even drizzled.

Original plan for today was Debela peč. Due to renovation of the forest road to Medvedova konta, we chose new goal: Viševnik. Day was gorgeous, though quite warm for end of October. Larches surprise us this year - hard to find that nice yellow color, some already lost all needles, others boast almost brown color. Yet eyes rested on them.nasmeh

Is the renovation also on the road to the monument Pri Rupah?
I plan to go there tomorrow, but wouldn't want to run into a closure.

Renovation or road closure was after cca. 100 m when you turn from the main asphalt road. How it will be tomorrow, unfortunately we don't know. Wherever you go, enjoy the day!

Planned to go to Blanco and VDV, but at Rudno polje I meet Barbara and 3 of her friends, so we went together to Viševnik. For one of them it was her first 2000er.
And I didn't regret it at all, we had a really good time.
No wind, views as awesome as it gets, colorful larches ....we even saw one chamois.

Today we went to Viševnik via Kačji rob, where we turned onto the eastern ridge of Viševnik. Quite a crowd at the top, so we continued as far as possible along the western ridge to Srenjski preval.
Returned along the north side below Viševnik and again via Kačji rob to the starting point at Rudno polje. Weather very warm, no wind, some haze in the sky. Path mostly dry, larch needles falling fast, those nicest golden colors are no more.

Today complete opposite from 14 days ago. In high mountains now winter, otherwise today day as awesome as it gets. Didn't need winter gear, it stayed in backpacks. But some used small crampons for descent.

Yesterday hoping for sunny vistas we ascended Viševnik. From the upper cable car station there was frozen snow and we used crampons and ice axe for ascent on the slope and return to the valley. The sky didn't take pity and most of the time we walked under a gray blanket. For a few minutes we saw the peak and summit ridge illuminated, but we didn't have that luck on our ascent and at the top it was cold and surroundings in clouds.
Definitely recommend using winter gear. More at:
