Thanks to both. On Matajur you always find something nice to photograph. Even if motifs repeat, the colors are always different.

Matajur on Friday, 12.6.2015, from Avse. Last time on this path over two years ago, when I could enjoy white plains with snowshoes. This time nice summer day, despite late hour and high temperature not stifled by mugginess, flies preferred to bother cows rather than me (unlike previous week, when on path from Rodica to Črna Prst swarms of all kinds of insects hovered around me).

The path over Srednji and Mrzli vrh I took very leisurely and extended it to saddle below Visoka glava and climbed to Matajur summit via north ridge. Down valley via east ridge and Old path to Idrijska planina and further on usual hiking path to Avse. On summit despite heat on path warm clothes came in handy and I gladly cooled in cold wind and enjoyed solitude. Though without famous views, Matajur didn't disappoint this time either. Even today the peace I soaked up on this beautiful hill envelops me.

Today my wife and I enjoyed the blooming slopes of Matajur. We did a circular route Rifugio Pelizzo - Maršinska planina - Dom na Matajure - summit - Rifugio Pelizzo. The path is somewhat muddy in places, on the top wind as always. Nice nasmeh

Matajur didn't disappoint even on Sunday, 12.7.2015. Despite the heat pressing in the valley already early in the morning, I nicely strolled along Matajur with a light breeze. I chose the path that turns left above Rif. Pelizzo towards Maršinska planina. I continued to the saddle below Visoka Glava and climbed to the summit along the northern ridge. I returned along the eastern ridge and then past the Skrila spring to the starting point. Pure enjoyment without strain. Of course not for those sweating towards the summit at noon.
More in the descriptions under the photos.

The road from Mašera village to Matajur village has got a new asphalt coating in a good part, some shallower potholes still remain before Mašera and just above Matajur village.

On Tuesday I finally took some time to hop into the hills after a longer break, headed to Matajur. Despite the relatively early hour, it had already quite overheated and sweated me to Idrska planina, similar up to the Matajur summit. On top an hour of rest and sunbathing. The view unfortunately not ideal, summit logbook in the church completely full. Then to Maršinska planina and back via Slovenian path to Idrska planina, where I got cheese and butter and then dashed home. Before that a cold Radler at Jelenov breg nasmeh

I started my morning walk on Matajur on Sunday, 9.8.2015, even before sunrise. At 4.30 at the starting point at Rif. Pelizzo (1320 m.a.s.l.) it was already 18.5 degrees, but with strong wind it was nicely cool. On the summit, awaiting sunrise, I chilled deeply despite warm clothes. The strong wind howling didn't drown out the rave party noise from the valley, which didn't subside even when the sun was shining strongly. So no primal nature experience despite solitude. From the summit I went down the eastern ridge to the junction for Avso, turned right there and climbed the old path to Dom na Matajure. Continued on the direct path to Maršinska planina and returned over the southern slopes to Rif. Pelizzo, where at 9.30 it warmed to 24.5 degrees. Right time to head to the valley, first hikers just starting to sweat towards the summit. This time views in haze, instead of flowers golden grasses and plenty of raspberries.

In a good month I was 3 times on a walk to Matajur on the Italian side, but I wasn't lucky to catch it in full autumn beauty. Clouds covered either the sun or the views. Yesterday I also missed the clear blue sky and the wide whiteness of the Julians by two hours. Upon my arrival the Matajur summit was already wrapped in clouds. In the grayness I found no inspiration for longer walk on muddy paths and soaked slopes, so I quickly turned from the summit and drove to Kolovrat. At Kuk I still caught some sun, then only good two hours later, when just before sunset it created glowing colors in the sky. Meanwhile I climbed from the open-air museum to Trinški vrh and walked the ridge to the foot of Nagnoja. While waiting for the colors I walked a couple times the path between the western and eastern part of Trinški vrh. Patience was rewarded this time.
At Rif. Pelizzo the sun was pleasantly warming, but Matajur summit was shrouded in clouds1

Just a few days ago the Matajur summit was all white, today southern slopes almost bare. Elsewhere still a few cm of dry and soft snow, also on our side – at least visually to Idrska planina. Enough for enjoying walking in snow, too little for snowshoes.
Road to Rif. Pelizzo clear, in the last part some ice to the parking.
Three weeks ago nice autumn day and completely clear mountains.

On Sunday after a few weeks' strike finally revisited the hills, I hopped to Matajur. I climbed it via my favorite mountain path starting at the beginning of Avse by the former parking lot. To the summit I needed well under 2 hours, as this time I barely stopped or (almost) didn't bother with photography. At the 'junction' of the Venetian and Slovenian paths I chose the latter. Back via the Venetian path, over Mrzli and Srednji vrh and the old path to the parking lot. Temperatures were high on top, wherever the view reached only the whiteness of clouds. Really excellent scenes.

The rise of the Christmas full moon was covered by fog ruling Primorska for two weeks already. To catch at least its setting, I climbed Matajur yesterday, 26.12.2015. Perfect clarity adorning places above 1000 m.a.s.l. for some days didn't promise color splendor, but I caught the moon.

At the starting point at Rif. Pelizzo already at 6.00 a.m. pleasant +3 degrees, higher around zero, as frozen ground nicely sparkled in headlamp light. On return at 10.00 already warmed to plus 12. Instead of winter idyll sun-glistening grasses and gentians. Wrong world.

On Sunday Matajur invited me on the first hike of this year. To the summit via the old path and windy Mrzli and Srednji vrh. Back the same way, this time I skipped the old mountain path. Little snow, nothing frozen, so you can reach the top without problems. Nice Sunday weather attracted a lot of local and Italian hikers to Matajur. Views were great!

14.2.2016 on Valentine's Sunday in a snowstorm, PD Nova Gorica hike to the top of Matajur from the Italian side. At the top real winter with icy wind and snow.
