I was up there yesterday, start in Avsa and via Beneska path to the summit. Foggy, on the ridge and summit visibility very poor and strong wind. Practically no snow, but to the delight of visitors Dom na Matajurju (Benecija alpine family) is open on Saturdays and Sundays.

Where is Dom na Matajurju located? Yes, I was up there years ago from Avsa past Svinjska planina.

On the Italian side, SW from the summit you see it, less than 10 min to it.

Hi! I've finished with faculty for this week and I'm wondering how much snow there is on Matajur. Tomorrow, say, it would be nice to go check =)

On Sunday, it was 0-35 cm (depending on area or drift). Nice tracks on all paths and wonderful effortless hike, so decide.

Ložac, Matajur.... If you don't believe these names still exist, stop sometime at Dom na Matajurju and listen to the speech of young caretakers from the Nadiš valleys.

There is no real schedule, but it is usually open on weekends also in winter if the weather is nice.

I believe, but I don't know them... I sometimes read a bit of Novi Matajur, but their dialect is really special. Even the Italian names of these places are special and some are hard to remember.

Today Matajur showed itself in a very friendly form. The path from the Italian side is well trodden, a bit less from the Avs side (at Livk). On the Italian side the path is dry up to the village Matajur, to the Pelizzo hut only with winter gear. The last kilometer is drivable only for cars on "high legs".

Was the hut open?

You mean Dom na Matajure? There were some snowshoers in front of it, I don't know if it was open because I went straight past. I think Koča Pelizzo is open - judging by the people on the terrace.

My partner and I were also up there again from Montemaggiore, Davide with skis, I went to the top just in sneakers, forgot ski boots at home....skis left in the car....Had good socks, so the foot wetness didn't bother me too much. Nice company on the ascent...Lots of cars, but many people only on the first part of the path..after the first bends almost alone.

That's the village Matajur - Italian name for that village and hill.
