On Saturday, the best winter mountain visit this year. SuzanaM with her frequent descriptions already ignited my desire for a winter visit to Matajur.
But I realized she didn't exaggerate; even more, it seemed even prettier to me. It had me swaying a bit from all that beauty opening up along the whole path. I had to stop countless times to absorb all those winter scenes, marvel at them and relive them at home with the pictures.
The day was clear, slight mists later just enriched the views, creating even more enticing light.

Along the whole path, it was Krn that drew the looks most, which with its neighbors was definitely the main backdrop, worthy of the greatest admiration.

Hi ločanka, you've completely stunned me again with the views and sights of beautiful mountains on your path to Matajur! I'm wondering, which path to Matajur gave you these views? Can you please indicate the path you took to Matajur? Best nasmeh

zlatica, sorry for the quite late reply.
Starting point in the village Avse (at the sign on the 6th picture), then just follow the trail marks (it's also quite a reinforced path or at least footprints, here and there). At the path start it says "old path". I strongly recommend ascent via Srednji and Mrzli vrh, where really exceptional views on surrounding mountains open. Otherwise lots of signs on the path, you can't miss it.
Ascent took approx. 3.5 hours (with lots of photos and admiring), return around 2 hours. The signs indicate ascent approx. 2.5 hours.

In search of sunshine we went from Matajur village to Matajur. Bora accompanied us from home most of the path, on Matajur it almost left us alone. Thus a beautiful day was made and Matajur offered great views. For Matajur's modest slopes also quite good skiing.

Already during the drive we could see that a great day awaited us

Not exactly a sunny sunrise, but a Krn sunrise.

Towards Stol and Kanin and much further ...

Spring has already come to the village of Matajur.

These days leisurely-friendly Matajur offers muddy paths in early hours, wet feet (on SW approach grasses are high), ticks and plenty of flowers. nasmeh

On Monday also a jump from Avse to Matajur. Already at half past eight in the morning there was no more morning coolness. There were quite a few people despite the heat. At the top there's, among other things, also a very nice stamp.

The times on the signposts are quite confused. Here to Kobarid is 15 min less than to Livk

On the way back also a jump to Mrzli vrh

Yesterday after lunch I headed to Matajur from Pelizzo hut and via Maršinska planina. On the shady side in the last steep summit part on the path there is frozen snow, so some caution is needed. At the top quite a few of us, despite cold and wind, awaited the sunset nasmeh
