Slovenian Mountain Trail

I read with interest the article on the 60th anniversary of the Slovenian Mountain Trail. But some inaccuracies bothered me, which I'd like to highlight, namely they write:

- SLOVENIAN MOUNTAIN TRAIL IN NUMBERS:
Opened on 1 August 1953, had 80 points.
Initiator and mastermind: Ivan Šumljak.
Number of points: today 75 control points since 2011 (2003-2011: 71 control points, 1993-2003: 69 points (in 2001 one point changed), before 1993: 80 control points).

I'd add that SPP before 1958 only ran to Postojna (stamp at PD secretary) and there were fewer CT.

- climb to 23 wonderful peaks,

There are considerably more (on "Po robu" path at least 5).

- accompanied on entire SPP by red-white Knafelc marking with number 1.

Not true, since markings on several sections, e.g. between Podkraj and Abram, are not traceable, on Senožeče - Vremščica section no number 1....

So far around 9500 hikers have successfully walked the Slovenian Mountain Trail, to whom exactly as many badges have been awarded. In PZS records as first recipients of honorary badge for walked trail listed: Pregrad Pašič, Beograd (1958), Dušan Starčevič, Beograd (1958), Lojze Hafner, Ljubljana (1958), Marjan Ribarič, Ljubljana (1958), Ema Trbovšek, Ljubljana (1960), Franc Bračko, Hoče (1965), Stanka and Tome Demšič, Hoče (1965).

Not true, as records list the following:
1. Predrag Pašić, Beograd
2. Franc Šolar, Koper
3. Borut Juvanc, Maribor
4. Drago Glogovšek, Maribor
5. Norbert Voj, Maribor
6. Margetič Rudi, Celje
7. Jovan Marković, Sokolov Kamen
8. Slobodan Stanišič, Sokolov Kamen
9. Tomislav Savić, Sokolov Kamen
10. Ivanka Mohorič, Kranj

Nice anniversary! I just read Anton Ingolič's novel - Wonderful Trail. It is exactly about this trail where mountain trio conquers peaks and admires nature's beauties while also pondering and facing hard problems awaiting in the valley.
Recommend.

@headstar Why are you spreading false info that on the Senožeče-Vremščica section there is no 1 next to the marking. (few such SPP experts like you). No hard feelings.

From Podkraj to Abram (they were well visible) old markings, which have been renewed since June of this year. The number 1 was always added (before and now too). This SPP section is maintained by PD Vipava. From Abram to Vojka hut markings are not yet renewed, but it will happen soon. This SPP section is maintained by PD Podnanos. From Vojka hut to Razdrto SPP goes along an easy path, maintained by PD Postojna. The path is newly marked, namely from Razdrto to Sv. Heronym, always with number 1 added. It will continue to the hut. New (metal) direction signs with all data prescribed by KZP PZS standards will be placed and will finally replace the current (broken) and inappropriate "antlers". From Razdrto to Senožeče and further to Škocjan Caves and to Artviže and to Markovščina SPP is fully renewed, including number 1s, the route has also been fully marked with metal direction signs for years. This SPP section (excellently!) is maintained by PD Sežana. From Markovščina to Ankaran SPP is maintained by OPD Koper. Anyway, in the SPP maintenance rules it is exactly written how SPP should be marked, namely with Knafelc mark, to which at intervals (so the hiker knows he's still on SPP trail) approximately every fifth or more mark has Arabic number 1 added. This number is especially important at intersections with other hiking trails. Such example is right at Vremščica, where two hiking paths split towards Škocjan Caves and therefore on the pole where several direction signs are placed, there is a sign with Knafelc mark and number 1 showing SPP direction. It is true that the first variant of SPP ended in Postojna, later extended over Sv. Trinity and Osojnica and Vremščica and Škocjan Caves to Slavnik, even later from Slavnik to Ankaran. Also in the first editions of SPP Guide the SPP route (then called TZV1), on the attached maps, nicely drawn as marked from Predjama to Postojna. Also on the "Nanos" hiking map, PZS edition from 2007, the route (now ordinary hiking path) between Predjama and Postojna is drawn as marked. Another thing is if PD Postojna didn't mark this path - but they should have... (Former) TZV1 route from Vojka hut to Predjama, through Postojna to Pečno reber and over Sv. Trinity to Osojnica and Vremščica is now ordinary hiking path and Arabic number 1 next to Knafelc mark MUST NOT! be used anymore! Let me emphasize that on abandoned and rerouted sections (former) SPP only ordinary Knafelc marks are painted, old still visible somewhere Arabic 1s next to hiking mark time will erase...
Congratulations to all PDs maintaining the aforementioned SPP sections for a job well done, and to SPP hikers I wish lots of enjoyment and beautiful moments in the wonderful nature and on the well and exemplary marked and maintained SPP trail from Podkraj to Markovščina and further towards the sea!

Such way of working - marking paths bothers me a lot. Why wait so long that paths overgrow, markings and maybe some additional signs completely fade. Then when some higher official person is expected in the area, then the markers wake up and we go to work for some praise and reward. For me a good marker, if he decided that this will be and accepted a certain part of the path (say in mid-mountains), will go at least twice a year along (his path) and do the necessary work on time. If in the meantime there were some bad storms, thunderstorms, he will check even a third time and that without anyone reminding. You have to mark for hikers who walk paths for several days, also at night and in rain, not so that people in ties see your work. If you think this is not true I can write you some evidence from the field that convinced me to think so. Above I also read that time will erase the old signs. How many people will in the meantime wrongly turn and get lost?? (some of my new ones, but markers in Carinthia removed them), which would come in handy for night hiking. Best regards.

On Saturday I start from Maribor along the SPP, and I'm interested in how the water supply is along the path, are there any springs and the like? I'll be on the path about ten days, so water info is never too much. (POHORJE)

Thanks for any info

I would ask for advice and instructions for a multi-day August trip on the western part of SPP Julijci, namely starting from Vrata and direct ascent to Pogačnik hut at Kriški podi, Razor, Prisojnik, Poštarski dom, Tičarjev dom, shelter under Špička, Jalovec and back to shelter and continuation to hut at Soča source and overnighting in huts. If possible along SPP trail which must be secured because backpack will be quite heavy. I would also ask for approximate times between points considering the length of the hike and fatigue. Oh and we're not fast because we take lots of photos nasmeh. And maybe some idea for a side trip to a nearby peak or hut around this trail. Is there a sleeping possibility between Pogačnik hut and Vršič or must it be done in one day?
Thanks for advice and help nasmeh

Thanks, I used both variants and in mapsource put together a super tour, now I just need to see how it works in nature. Does anyone know if on this section there are any more exposed parts where more caution is needed than usual on secured paths? nasmeh

primoza, yeah tempting, but probably wait for another opportunity for standalone tour, since we plan with son to extend the whole thing from hut at Savica to Prehodavci, pl.Dedno polje, pl. at Jezero, Vogar, Bohinj or even better if we catch transport from hut at Savica to Lepena to hut at Krn lake, Bogatin, Mahavšček, pl. Miri, sorry mistake in writing the text - we come from the direction of the hut at the source of Soča and not Savica from Jalovec down and then in that direction to Bogatin, Komna and Savica, of course sleep in the hut at Krn Lake. Actually we decided to stamp the last empty spots in the SPP booklet - Aljažev dom in Vrata, Razor, Prisojnik, huts on Vršič, shelter under Špik, Jalovec, hut at source of Soča, Zlatorog hut if it still exists, then depending on transport, if we manage to hitch to Lepena to the hut at Krni and Bogatin to Komna, otherwise over Prehodavci past Tičarica, Zelnarica to Bohinj mountains, Vogar and to the valley. I'll see what snow conditions will be up there, not too keen on such conditions. nasmeh

I.tana thanks, anyway they say a photo is enough if you don't have the stamp from the place. Well, we'll take a photo and "glue it in the booklet" and that's it, problem solved velik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmeh - Thanks for the info and link !!!

Hello.

I see that SPP experts are here (headstar, B2, otiv).

I have one question? Did SPP or TV1 ever go past Pohorski bataljon?

I ask because I found a mark with number 1 there. Unfortunately I don't know (yet) the beginning of TV1 history.

For nostalgia I'm sending you also a very old wooden TV1 mark. It's located at Three Nails (Pohorje).

Thanks for the answer.

On my old (1985) Pohorje map there are two options drawn, one going over Osankarica and the other past Klopni vrh.

If anyone is interested by chance nasmeh Based on the 1985 Pohorje map (Eastern part) TV split at Bojgot into the right part leading past Klopni vrh and the left part going past Three Springs, Black Lake, home at Osankarica and Pohorski bataljon.

Interesting fact. Do you know if the home at Osankarica was a mandatory point then?
