Alpina Žiri Shoes

Yeah, what do you expect from a shoe? Eternity? I've already changed two pairs per season myself. And they weren't junk. It's true that back then I did huge tours... now I have Mammut, already the third pair of low ones for approaches, and I'm quite satisfied. It's true that there's no comparison between brand names and others.

I bought Alpina for my son and I'm quite satisfied. He too.

Nothing, just sharing my experience between shoes for 220e and 350e.

Probably, I'm the only one satisfied with Alpina shoes. I've been buying them for several seasons. Last year, I bought low ones, and they are very ok. I'll see if Tibet are really so bad as you say. If you walk a lot, every shoe wears out, be it Alpina or another. And one more thing, they almost always have discounts. At least I made sure to buy when they were somewhat discounted.

Well yeah, Diablo you get every now and then with 30% discount, then it's no more 220 but 170 €. Which is less than half of 350.

Yeah, with discounts you also get Sportiva cheaper. Base price is as it is. Not to mention wear of upper shoe part over time becomes loose, does not support ankle properly etc. Those who do tours which are more tough and value their health/feeling, I really can't say much positive about Alpina boots after such experience.

I don't know, but I have been with Alpinis so far always satisfied and if someone asks me, I'll always recommend them. For summer I have Tibet (not even close to being so bad), for winter Peak. True, I have also heard some bad experience from pairs, of course I know people who have bad experiences also with "imported" 2x more expensive (Sportiva, Salewa,..).
Alpina has frequent sales, PZS pro staff (guides, markers,...) always have 30% discount, even if there is no sale.

Ah yes, in one last year's Planinski vestnik they had a test of low hiking shoes, I think 11 models. Alpinis were already absolutely the best rated, but when they also added the prices, there was no comparison at all.

I don't give much or nothing on those tests. Test is your foot, your feeling and not lines written in PV. It's generally that those who advocate for Alpina are those who have a hard time spending more money on some expensive boot and don't even have detailed ideas/experiences because they haven't owned and done tours with such a boot. It's like that one will have a torn gaiter and still say "it's good". I just am not like that.

Bought Alpina Tibet V less than 2 weeks ago, tested it already on dry and wet ground, mud, snow and more than satisfied. On mud logically poor grip and if not careful also slips a bit, on snow no problem, almost doesn't slip, on dry ground 1A, haven't had such good shoes yet. Plus also comfortable, waterproof and really very very durable. Only minus is weight, if we go into details, but almost not worth mentioning those few extra grams. But that's why they are so much more durable.

Otherwise, before purchase I also browsed forums a bit and all highly praise Tibet, saleswoman in store also told me it's the best-selling model among these shoes and probably also the best in this price range. More than satisfied and recommend to everyone looking for a shoe around 130eur.

Well, I've tried a couple of different boots, but haven't tested them over longer periods, because I simply don't see a sensible reason to buy a 2x more expensive boot if my current one serves excellently. I got Tibet once in autumn for round 100€ (-40%) and like @Kleemen tested it in quite different conditions, I have nothing bad to say.
That about the torn sock is like this, someone will say that the really torn one is the 2x more expensive.

Everyone knows for themselves. The boot is something important, but on the car you also mount cheap stuff? Then you convince yourself in your head that there's no difference. Because the difference is not only big but huge. True, not in the same price range, but in some things in life price shouldn't prevail. Anyway, it's an eternal debate again. One will buy pants a size smaller just because they're discounted, doesn't care if ass hangs out when he bends over. People anyway..

These were Alpina shoes that I carried a lot, but I had two: La sprtina, which for me were too narrow a model and low, and also Tibet, which for now has the profile OK.
quite fine, they did their job1
front, too narrow model, I was on toenails during descent2
I also have no remarks3

If I told you what all could be done with regular adidas sneakers, you wouldn't believe.
But nothing beats comfort..., of course if you have money.

With the price of sports gear you have to know too (well, like everything) that a huge share goes to the retailer margin. Alpina has its own stores, so the margin is lower, while e.g. Sportivini bought in Iglu or Kibuba from this viewpoint are quite more salted. The difference in the factory price itself is much lower.

Ah, and since we're at prices. Hofer synthetic shirt by my experience (and many agree) is nothing worse than 4x more expensive from Iglu. Maybe you stink of sweat a bit earlier, but the functionality itself is the same.

Yes, money plays an important role. Always, I bought shoes that were on sale. Once, the saleswoman in Alpina was so nice she told me the shoes would be further discounted. And I came back for them. Why not if they offer such deals. If you have a wide foot, you already have problems with shoes, because not all are ideal, far from it.

Branee, quality is not always conditioned by price. You can get very quality stuff for little money, but you need to know where and what to buy. I have lots of gear from Decathlon and no complaints on quality. On the other hand, I had double Garmont shoes from Iglu, I can only write that I'll never look at Garmont again...

Drpapr, you're right, I too use Salomons on many tours, but more than half a year they are unusable due to external conditions

For me Garmont doesn't represent quality even less the first mentioned brand
