Trupejevo poldne

Today we hikers of PD Škofja Loka were there, more precisely VGN section and also mountaineering section Savčan at Trupejevo poldne. Start was at Srednji vrh. Then past Jerman stream through gully to Hudi hlevi through Železnica to saddle between Lepi vrh and Trupejevo poldne. Stream even washed away one little bridge. We even encountered patches of snow. From saddle only about twenty minutes to panoramic peak. To hunting hut in Železnica descend western ridge, which I would rate as nicer path also for ascent from hunting hut. For us they even open hunting hut and serve. In Gozd Martuljek we also view habitats of beautiful lady's slipper with local expert guidance.

On the last day of June we walked the path from Srednji vrh along Jerman stream to the "Železnica" hunting hut. There behind the hut we turn onto the border ridge and reach the summit along it. This path is nice and very scenic. The summit itself is overgrown with tall grass and nettles, so we chose the neighboring peak for a break. After descending to the saddle between Trupej and Lepi vrh we head to Murnovec, where the view opens to Triglav, Maloško poldne and Kresišče. From there we descend to the valley to the "za lepim vrhom" hunting hut and return to the start along the road.
There are lots of larches here, so I think it's even nicer here in autumnnasmehvelik nasmeh.

Yesterday at Trupejevo poldne from Železnica. Snow starts about an hour from Srednji vrh. At the hunting hut already about 30 cm. The circular path from the hunting hut to the ridge, along it to the summit and over the saddle back to Železnica was trodden. Snow dry, soft, winter gear not needed, gaiters definitely. It was very cold, on the ridge occasional strong wind, in between sun was showing, at the summit snow shower. Great tour!

Today to Trupejevo poldne from Srednji vrh. From Železnica ascent past the hunting hut along the border ridge, descent to the saddle below Lepi vrh. Conditions excellent: just right cold, no wind, plenty of snow (along the upper part of the path by Jerman stream and at Železnica), paths trodden, views wonderful.

Right at the end of the village at Srednji vrh I was a bit surprised to find that the path towards Trupejevo poldne through Železnica wasn't trodden. Some snow-covered footprints and then "track" of ski tourers. I made peace with those footprints and animal tracks and climbed along the stream following them. Weather excellent, not too cold, no wind. In Železnica tourers were following the tracks, then I broke through with a bit of bad conscience. But on the way back I saw that skiers had churned it all up. At the hunting hut the pedestrian track turned towards the hut, further on it was knee-deep for me, so I ended the ascent. Would have gone with skis, which unfortunately stayed home. Next time. On the way back I met some young hikers, don't know if they made it to the summit.

On Saturday from the village Srednji vrh to Trupejevo poldne. First half of the path nicely trodden, in the morning slightly icy, second half trodden track. Small crampons recommended, but it goes without them too. On the ridge strong north wind, a few meters below the cross on the south side nice shelter. Nice weather (if we subtract the wind), exceptional visibility in all directions of the sky. In summer I like this goal a lot, in winter it seems even nicer to me. Have fun!

On Thursday I walked part of the border ridge from Vošca over Blekova planina to Trupejevo poldne. The ridge path wonderful, well trodden, minor issue fallen spruces - but no problem.

Today we chose Trupejevo poldne - the ridge path as our goal. It was an excellent choice, since we met no one on the way to the top, so we enjoyed the wonderful colors and views in - so rare these days - solitude. At the top there were lots of walkers, who probably came via the path over Železnica. On this end the larches were dressed in all their colors today.
The torrents crossing the roads are exemplarily managed1

Today finally back in the mountains! For a start Trupejevo poldne by the most pleasant path - road from below Korensko sedlo towards Železnica. It's icy in places and the last three or four km also snowy, driving ends due to two fallen spruces about 500 m before the turn-off to Blekova planina, there I left the car at the bend. Snow there is about 15 cm, snow cover thickens with altitude, on the saddle below the summit at least half a meter, below frozen hard, on top about 15 cm powder. At the top completely southern and windblown. Walking was easy, path nicely trodden by two or three predecessors, footprints to ankles, almost no sinking holes. On the saddle I put on crampons just in case if icy up top, but it wasn't. No avalanches either.

At the top sun, slight wind, somewhat hazy and of course divine views. No soul anywhere. Returned via friendly and scenic border ridge to Blekova planina and then wide snowy cart track back to road and car. With car carefully rolled over deeper stream crossing the road about 2 km from parking spot. Down the road where icy, drove very slowly. Didn't need chains, but had them.

It was nice!

Some today's snapshots from the path to the mentioned peak. Starting point Srednji Vrh. Then over Jureževa planina to Vošca and from there over Blekova planina to Trupejevo poldne. The path itself without special features - today no winter gear needed. Views wonderful. Nice mountaineer's greeting.

Conditions from a few days ago are quite different from current ones, but some facts won't change.

Classic approach to Trupej from Srednji vrh along Jerman stream valley offers some broken trees, nothing worse in that direction. Summit part of the mountain wind-polished to hard, not very pleasant base. In these days quite some snow fell on it, won't bond quickly.

Return via Železnica to hunters' hut below Vošca and descent to Jurež farm. Železnica offers abundance of fallen trees requiring some gymnastics, rest ok. Descent to farm without features.

Parking lot at Srednji vrh was already completely occupied at 8 a.m., there was still space at the upper karavla1
To the starting point we had to descend a bit. The farm owner there does not allow parking2
Immediately we put on our snowshoes, some were without any equipment. Higher up such people sank deeply3
The morning first showed a friendly face, later fog banks rolled in4
Up top, down below, across... each in their own way :)5

Towards the saddle. It was sinking in for walkers, much faster with touring skis and snowshoes8
Beautiful peak opposite Trupej. Its north slope can unpleasantly surprise in winter9
View towards the Julian Alps. Unusual low cloud cover persists in the Karawanks for almost a whole month10
Part of the slope towards Trupej is hard and frozen, now also richly snow-covered11
Drifted, uncomfortably hard passage12
Just below the summit. Strong icy wind was blowing, so we turned back immediately13
Still in Austrian style14
Ridge towards Blekova, passable in summer, this time with curtains of flying snow15
Ski tourers retreated a little below the summit into the shelter of spruces16
We two took it straight down. Snowshoes floated in powder, heel crampons bit into frozen base17
Pure pleasure :)18
We continue along Železnica19
Soon it was clear to us why there were no tracks of ski tourers20
There is a huge amount of it, and not only here21
Even the sun sent us a friendly greeting :)22
Winter with a capital W23
Another one of the many obstacles …24
And yet another one ...25
Correction … small stuff under the snow :)26

On Tuesday, Jan 26th, with my 4x4 buddy we headed from Srednji vrh to Trupejevo poldne. I used snowshoes, 4x4 guy snow claws.
Along the stream some fallen trees, but easy passages everywhere.
On the path from village to just before junction with Železnica, snow fairly packed wide. Further on only solid is ski tourers' track. Left and right deep sinking.
Crossing the slope below hunters' hut with snowshoes quite strenuous, so turned back at big clearing below saddle. On clearing snowshoes sank 15 cm in deep snow. Without them on ski track to ankles, off it above knees. Snow depth there at least 150 cm - since with 135 cm pole didn't reach bottom.
No visible avalanches on path.
Only at stop on clearing met 5 ski tourers ascending to top. No "hikers".
Safe travels.
