Boštjan, I agree. Garmont, it wasn't even strenuous. Just wind and fog ... Pity about the views, though I'm used to them. tinky, grateful choice? I missed the snow. And I'm always glad for such experiences. Regards.

Today from Mače past Dom na Kališču to Storžič. Morning path to Kališče quite wet and foggy up to 1000 m a.s.l., then, as forecasted, sun came out. Dom na Kališču closed, so I made coffee myself Path to summit dry. Snow starts at 2000 m a.s.l., early enough so track frozen nicely, decided to put on crampons and take ice axe first time this year (carrying them). With crampons nice to summit, poking with ice axe along path, but stayed long at top (great conditions, sun no wind), snow softened, descent needed more caution stepping with crampons. Path from 2000 to 1200 m a.s.l. dry on descent, quick to valley. Below 1200 m dense fog, moisture, mud etc... Met no one on path, only hiker joined at summit. Whole hike good 5 hours. P.S.: conditions tomorrow almost the same, if unsure where, recommend Storžič

Has anyone hiked Storžič from the north side? Thanks and safe in the mountains.

Today on Storžič from Dom pod Storžičem. Lower part via Škarje, summit wall direct to top right of marked path. Climbed ridge 20m below summit over rock jump. Conditions awesome. Footprints in Kramarjeva route. Three jumps in fifth gully visible from path. Little snow in wall but wind crust. Descended to Mače. Dom na Kališču open.

Start from end of road above Laški along edge trail. Towards Storžič looked bad. Good cameras showed sun. Above bench opened up. Kališče lots of visitors. Someone played accordion. Fewer hikers to summit. (JušAvguštin did we meet?) Trail above saddle in bushes - behind S edge icy but ok without crampons. No one wore them. South side snow patches, afternoon soaked. View great. Descent steady along south ridge bare (except first saddle few m compacted icy snow) to road in dark.

Storžič - via Kališče conditions 8.2.2020 Conditions today more springlike, though Storžič looks very green from afar, in practice not quite so. From Bašelj pass upwards alternates smooth snow, ice and longer bare parts among bushes and shady spots, wire section completely bare, last part snow tongues on path. In short: patience training putting on and taking off crampons.

For such cases/conditions ideal are smaller crampons like e.g. Lesce chain.

Don't lecture me about small crampons for Storžič. I had them myself a month ago on the same path, and I tell you they're not ok, because the slope is too steep and they easily turn or partially come off. Anyway, every school costs something.

Oh man, where on Storžič from Kališče is such a steep slope in these conditions, where it's a bit steeper it's almost dry. One week ago up from Laški dom and down via Kališče, no problem with crampons, much more comfortable than scrambling over rocks with those "big ones".

@exwannabe Don't be too smart. It seems to me that for you "jumps over the ditch where there's a bridge ... Hope you understand the message? Lp!

I agree with @exwannabe. On Jan 3rd I was up there. Quite a lot dry, with ice in between. I had the gear with me of course, but with microspikes it felt much safer than "drytooling" with 12-pointers over rocks and roots.

I didn't ask whom you agree with. Jan 3, today is the 9th. With brains and right personal decisions it's best for each individual in the mountains. Lp!

Highly esteemed, eternally angry lady Jelica. Finally a sensible remark. Just like you said: with brains and right personal decisions based on current terrain conditions.

To each his own, just based on actual experiences and current terrain conditions, everything else is lecturing and theorizing.
