Slovenian - ignorance or negligence?

@cebelca:

With uptightness I meant more that fire-breathing at those few playful folks here who just recognized each other and howled "their way".

If you like posts in nice Slovenian, that's nothing uptight, why would it be.

Maja and others:

True, in many comments of you "dialect advocates" there's some implicit sense of threat. As if, we can't speak our way, they're imposing some foreign norm on us. Not true. No one's chasing anyone and no one's dictating how to speak in your private circle. It's just about comprehensibility. Simply - isn't the main purpose of the forum, especially topics on current conditions, exchanging useful info? And if so, isn't it most normal to use a language that's as understandable as possible to the widest interested public? So - insisting on the most "authentic" (ugh, how I hate that term) Carinthian isn't suitable for that.
And Maja, who mentioned SSKJ and that you professionally deal with language - you probably know that Toporišič doesn't define only standard language, but also common spoken. And that's the one we should at least basically aim for - without the strictest standard norms, and also without pronounced dialectal peculiarities that can be a barrier in communication.

You sure know how to mix fog, but this is a forum, some normal understanding has to be there. Dialect is definitely not welcome here, because it's not readable. And if we're talking words, people today are sensitive to what the interlocutor says. Every word imprints in memory and can lead to misunderstanding and even end of friendship.

I think the purpose of personal reporting is that others understand you. So, everyone should make the effort to write a normally readable and understandable article - text. Everything else is pointless and emphasizes personalized intentionally created difference from others. nasmeh

eviva panda, word in placenasmeh. That's the whole thing, that we understand each other, not that a person doesn't know if someone agreed with him or is just making fun of his previous post.
Where this can lead was clear already on the previous page, on one answer there were two questions what about that and that??? Who will even find anything useful browsing through these piles of uselessly created posts? He'll go for information elsewhere, where he'll get it without hassle.

Typical Slovenians - easiest is to criticize from the couch or armchair at home at the computer. Better go to the mountains and write some report. As I said, whoever wants reads, whoever doesn't doesn't have to, whoever understands ok, whoever doesn't has pictures. Greeting to Hribovc - we saw each other yeah when you went down to Križan we two and the last group to the top.

... to this topic just this, I have nothing against dialects, least of all, they are the basis of the Slovenian language, but here it's necessary to consider an important rule.
When to use dialect? That depends entirely on the speaking situation. So my opinion is still the same, that you just have to write the text so that readers understand it, otherwise dialect should intertwine on a private level and in the home environment.
Now let's go ...nasmeh
And nice greeting.

Language; some like pork between two slices of bread, say.
And some of us can't keep it behind our teeth, not when it's not really necessary and not when it would be needed.

I like to wander around.
And I'm almost more away from home than at home. And when I'm out, I'm like them there. And when they are here, they are like me. Not by messy hairstyle, not by some crooked tooth, not by sometimes strange look, to not say appearance, I don't differ from them and they from me.

Language !!! language is what makes me different. Far from it that there's something wrong with theirs, god forbid. But mine, my own, is so wonderful, so rich, so warm, if you will. And it has dual!
We love each other, is something completely different from I love myself or we love each other. Probably.

And books written before the second war, I read more gladly than modern ones. So many expressions, words and more, that know not only to tell, but literally conjure up what they describe.

Language; how many times have I already and how many times will I still bite my tongue ?!

Oh, oh, oh, isn't the moon already a bit past???? Couldn't you move these monologues that are longer and longer, since no one reacts to them and where even LG seems wise, to some private blog?

Maja you think nicely about language, too much purism harms more than helps.

But incidentally your analysis of language in PV surprises me which I read regularly and it "bothers" me just the opposite. Because each article is written by a different author from kids to hikers, alpinists and trekkers I perceive lots of different styles some more some less successful, but that's why it's more colorful.

If PV of course is what both of us mean nasmeh

MajaO, thanks for the professional explanations or opinion. Otherwise I won't comment to what extent I agree with what's written, but I'd add something about my very favorite read - Planinski vestnik. As a member of the younger generation without bad conscience I confirm that the writing style seems completely in line with expectations, and I've never had problems with understanding. Maybe a bit of objectivity in "evaluating" wouldn't hurt.

I go to the Dolomites already 5 years in a row in August, even though there are many people there are so many climbing options in the walls that people get lost. On ferratas there's a bit more crowd. Via Lipela on Tofana di Rozes can still be in the grip of ice/snow in June.

If you don't respect your mother tongue, it's really sad...

Otherwise, I think July is the appropriate month for visiting the Dolomites.

We must respect our mother tongue! Currently in Ljubljana at NUK there is an interesting exhibition, originals of extremely valuable books are on display.
