Safety in the mountains

I'm going to cool off in the sea.
This debate doesn't make much sense anymore....

Becar, I didn't feel like Jedriličar had anything against you either. Read his posts again; it could be you misunderstood him mežikanje

I don't know why this number 50 is so controversial. If someone lives under the mountains, it seems too little to me per year. No need to be free all day to do a tour if you drive to the foot of the mountain in 20 minutes.
Since I'm one of those whose mountains are concretely distant, I can't add up these numbers. If persistent, I get close to half. Of course ascents to nearby Pohorje not included, which can be done after or before work.
Anyway, Igor is right when he says you become a real mountaineer only with diverse ascents in different seasons. And then you're no longer interested if there's snow on the path, but rejoice in it because ascent and descent are mostly easier on it.
Maybe it's that we're too impatient and want to skim all the cream at the start. For some with "all options and abilities" it happens, for most not.
I too sometimes wonder how some manage to be in mountains so often (financially and time-wise), but there's always a background we don't know. And to just condemn someone for going to mountains on our money is a bit too much!
Ultimately the number of ascents doesn't matter at all, but that we fully lived every day we were "up there"!

dprapr, I agree, the essence of it all is that we go to the mountains for ourselves, doesn't matter how high and how oftennasmeh

If you're in the same league as Igor, then 50 tours is really little. Otherwise it's not about the number, for me it's mainly about the quality of ascents both experientially and internally. Maybe this too, everyone who asked got an answer, such or "different". But if it's hard for someone to look three posts back, maybe even with pictures about path condition, then... Well, I don't know. And if everyone followed the principle "check first, then ask" there would be much less conflicts and useless comments and bad mood. Anyway, I personally replied to every ZS even if sometimes I didn't exactly know what the person wanted from me. But that belongs to another topic. The heat has eased, now time for nice tours, good luck everyone and without "nonsense" in the mountains! Life is only one, mountain won't collapse tomorrow.

Cheers!

Meanwhile, as the PZS president creates "new law on hiking paths", the situation is as follows.
The path to Razor is OFFICIALLY CLOSED. PZS direction signs still direct mountaineers to Razor.
Who takes responsibility in this case if something happens, the mountaineer or the path manager who didn't properly warn the mountaineer that the path is closed?
Sloppiness without precedent.
All congratulations to PZS leadership.

Well, when I went to Prisojnik (sometime end of July), there were quite a few notices about the path closure to Razaor. I won't put my hand in the fire but I think also at this spot. If someone tore them down that's another thing.

This isn't the same signpost as in the upper picture but it's 5min aside.

It's true that such paper notices quickly "fall off" (wind, rain,...)

Since the path past Razor to pode is open again, it's only a question whether the signs are still in place up to the Razor summit.

From Vršič side there are no notices that the path is closed.
What was and what wasn't is in that moment when the signpost directs someone to Razor and after five and a half hours of hiking finds out that the path to the summit is closed, completely irrelevant.
Now imagine what "nice" expressions they would utter at the Planja saddle, of course, if "paper" notices are still there.
With current technology, no excuse.

I can't imagine how you can close a "path" to someone in mountains! At most you can warn about dangerous or impossible access. And that was done if I'm not mistaken.
If we reach Planja saddle we can be satisfied and no "nice" words needed if can't go to top. Always good if there's reason to turn back up there! Otherwise more peaks around, Razor will wait.
Ups, if it doesn't collapse entirely!

If you read previous discussion well you could see from attached photo that it wasn't done.
Direction signs - they direct hikers to Razor. Path is officially closed. And how do you think warning or path closure was done if direction signs show nothing wrong with path.

Sometimes it was already hard to get someone to carry up a warning about path closure (writing about Mangart), let alone that someone would remove direction signs from all sides, but if you prepare properly for the tour nothing surprises youzavijanje z očmi

@julius:

if heading to demanding path it's appropriate to inquire about current conditions on it. In computer age hikers' excuses "nowhere written it's closed" no longer count.

I agree it would be proper to have as many notices as possible and also at Vršič some notice would probably just help but responsibility is also on hikers' side.

Just on Hribi.net portal you have notice about Razor path closure on descriptions of ALL paths to it on forum about current conditions and in this thread besides news about rockfall and path closure was published. This news reported also on RTV news on MMC portal on SIOL portal and on 24ur.com probably also on 24 hours show. Actually dare say every hiker who heads to Razor and doesn't know about rockfall is careless and poorly informed and thus danger to self and other mountain visitors.

"For one's own safety in the mountains, in my opinion, everyone is always responsible for themselves. Mentioning such or other shortcomings on signposts, signs etc. is just an excuse for blaming others. It is true that marks are sometimes not updated, but dear ones: inquire before going on the path. With today's technology and flood of information sources, there is no excuse if something surprises us in the mountains (except maybe the weather). If it happens, I blame myself. Therefore: preparation, preparation, and preparation once more ...
Otherwise: it is wise to turn back when it goes no further. The mountain will wait.
Good luck!"
