On Ojstrica via Kopinškova I was on Monday 6.7.09!!I had winter gear (ice axe, crampons...)-but for ME no need to use them... Conditions ok, all protections OK, one small snowfield (15m traverse) just near the top (S side), but yeah snow quite soft so you can make steps nicely and cross safely-for any case (safety against slip) recommend ice axe... Descent via Škarje back to Klemenča jama. Also on this descent one small snowfield, same soft and easy to cross..

It's also very nice on the path from Robanov Kot to Ojstrica, no snow on this path, no crowds either, or rather two hikers ahead of us. The ascent was pleasantly cool, towards the top of Ojstrica it was already scorching. LP!

This year among other things I plan an ascent to Ojstrica and that's why I'm interested in some data. For some time I've been looking at paths to this beauty of the eastern Julian Alps and I don't know which path to choose. Kopinškova path attracts me the most, but for something like that I'll first need to gather some more experience. I'm interested in a picturesque path without crowds or a path that's not the usual approach to the mountain. Judging by the pictures, the ascent from Robanov Kot seems very interesting, so I'd ask jprim or anyone to provide more info about this path (difficulty-very demanding or demanding, access, description of the path itself....). You can also suggest another path. Thanks in advance for answers. Lp

I think this is a mistake, since Ojstrica is not part of the Julians. As for the path from Robanov Kot, I can tell you it's quite demanding in length and time. I count it as demanding. Quite a lot of climbing, which is nicely secured though. For one day a fairly long tour.

Of course it's the eastern Kamnik-Savinja Alps. You can see it's already late

Yesterday we conquered Ojstrica from Planina Podvežak via Little Ojstrica and descended to Korošica where we replenished some energy in Kocbekov dom with goulash which was tasty, but also quite spicy so we almost ran out of water to the car. Then we continued past Lučki Dedec which we intended to climb but it's poorly marked and time was running out, then on past Vodotočnik and back to Podvežak.On the path past Vodotočnik full of flowers so it's worth returning this way from Korošica, otherwise no problems on the path, just a small surprise at the parking lot cows licked and slightly scratched the car.

What's the condition of the road to Planina Podvežak? Can you go with a passenger car or do you need a 4x4?

roger, today I did the tour Robanov Kot - Ojstrica. It's a very demanding tour. At normal pace it should take 5 hours 15 min, my slightly faster pace got me to the top in a little less than four hours. Don't take it lightly! It starts with an easy walk to Robanova Planina (just under one hour), then it climbs more in the forest and when the path reaches the wall, "hell" begins. Follows almost 1000m of extremely steep ascent along rocks with countless protections (wire ropes, pegs...). Protections are good, no worry for safety with smart walking, in the morning the ascent in this gully is mostly in shade. With fast pace I made a mistake, as I ran out of strength at the end for the final push to the top. You need to take time and rest as needed. When the path reaches Molička Planina, the steepness eases and finally a somewhat easier ascent follows. The path then leads to a junction where you can choose the hut at Korošica or the summit of Ojstrica. Steepness to Mala Ojstrica is not bad, then it steepens again and requires good fitness. From Molička Planina onwards it's fully exposed to sun and heat. At the top I chatted with passers-by, then descended towards Škarje and Korošica. In Kocbekov dom I refilled drinks and headed to the car. Descent requires quite concentration and really careful stepping (slippery on sand) and use of protections. I have to say the descent dragged on and I could hardly wait for flat ground. Then follows return along the road to start, which is again quite drawn out. I took the ascent as training (preparing for multi-day hike), hence faster pace. Started at seven in the morning, back in car at three. Once again, it's a strenuous tour requiring good fitness, lots of time and good company. Unfortunately didn't have the last two today, so the tour won't stay in the best memory. No snow up there anymore, but everywhere, especially on steep parts, watch for rocks left by winter on the path. Slippage happens quickly. Good luck

The road to Planina Podvežak is in fairly good condition, and can be driven without a 4x4, but you need to adjust your speed, if it's speed at all; we were four in the car and it went without problems, watch out for cows on the road! Anyway, happy into the mountains and lots of mountaineering pleasures.

'Stankuju' the path to Dedec is quite well trodden, a bit of sense of orientation and it's ok, or you can conquer it via a slightly more demanding path, starting from the hut below Dedec then under the walls and up to the top. LP!

I was there 14.7. via Kopinškova. Path is bare, snowfield under summit can be bypassed on lower side, so possible without ice axe, also descended via Kopinškova.

Since weather years ago didn't allow climb to Ojstrica, I did this route today with my better half. Ascended to summit from planina Podvežak via Mala Ojstrica. Lots of mountain lovers at top, unique views. Descent to hut no problems, small snowfield to cross no obstacle. Lp

Next weekend plan to take 8-year-old son from Korošica to Planjava and Ojstrica, wonder if needs protection?? If not so don't carry gear unnecessarily!!

Hard to answer this question! Son is yours and you know his high mountain capability!! Question of "unnecessary carrying of safety" gear is your decision - SINCE YOU LEAD HIM!! I usually carry (depending where I go) 20m rope, some karabiners and two Prusiks, first aid. Don't see it as unnecessary carry (luckily not used for long) but for that.. WHAT IF SOMEONE ELSE NEEDS HELP?? Decision yours! Which path, you know already?? Lp

Accidents happen in high mountains even to experienced, yet you ask about belaying 8yo son to avoid carrying basic safety gear unnecessarily. Think you lose nothing with extra kg in backpack, but might save/protect life...

not necessary, but not bad if you consider gear as obligatory part of equipment in mountains!!

Interested in Kopinškova path ... i.e. if still snow on it and thus ice axe needed. LP

Few days ago observed that patch below summit on north side - where it usually lasts longest. Here's photo - those patches usually avoidable by rock - think no trouble, good luck!! Lp
