Yesterday we went to check the depth of the famous Matkov pothole velik nasmeh

and we were impressed by nature's work nasmeh

that provides the beauties, the pothole is quite deep this year too approx 12-15m cool

. After return to the hunting hut in Matkov valley we refuelled a bit and rested and continued to Veliki vrh mežikanje

which requires some fitness and orientation skills since no marked path to it mrk pogled

and at the top we were rewarded with nice views all around, and one side to Matkov valley and the other to Logarska valley. We were a fine team velik nasmeh

Still recommended to have helmet on head, as up there still snowfield. Otherwise today nothing fell down!

Regarding Škaf depth measurement this year something doesn't "fit"! At lowest funnel rim surely deep ca 15m, at highest a couple meters more! mežikanje

Today first time at Matkov pothole. Morning quite hard (crampons), helmet not extra given rock amount. To use beautiful day, went to Olševa too. Saw Lipševa vrata from afar, per recommendations jumped to Strevčeva peč - wonderful view to KSA, Logarska valley and Matkov valley. Not that easy, upper part quite steep.

Today it was quite lively in Matkov valley. In the morning I caught the last nice parking spot. Since the tour to Škaf is too short especially for us from far away, first up to Veliki vrh. The path is really hard to find as the book says but everything is different from when the description was made. I climbed the forest lane almost to the 1400m saddle then left. Because at the start I was 50% sure I wouldn't find the way to the top. Then by instinct along the ridge. Steep grass wet in the morning, so careful. When steeper through dense scrub upwards good that it helps velik nasmeh

. Then the toughest part: grassy ledge diagonal left up, exposed, no joke. At the top great view into both valleys and wonderful panorama. One sits there especially today perfect weather no wind at the top. Descent to hunting hut-bivvy and of course then Škaf. I warn mainly: helmet recommended, nothing fell when I was there. I point out one thing: avalanche debris crossed on the path is larger this year than last - wider and undermined by water below, some collapsed, so attention when crossing.

Today unfortunately failed depth measurement of Škaf. The tech failed. mrk pogled

Personally I think it is at least as deep as last year... if not deeper.

As I wrote above, measured with a rope!!
On your 2nd picture, in the middle of the snow patch below it is 17m deep!

A friendly invitation one can't refuse and so after some years on Saturday in pleasant company I visited Škaf again. For the effort some were even rewarded with free showering in the Škaf itself. velik nasmeh

Its depth from the bottom is even more impressive (claustrophobic) velik nasmeh

than from the top.
