Well, I was already there in June and the Cauldron was there. I'm not from yesterday, so I understand how it forms and why it disappears . After your patronizing post I now don't even know how seriously to take the answer to the first question

Didn't ask about helmet, because I know it's necessary and no question if I'll have it.
At Cauldron I was once, 2 or 3 years ago. In June. Less snow on approach than in photos from last weekend, but then it was OK with crampons, snowfield was soft as snow was sun-exposed. Majority went to Cauldron without anything. From that I conclude winter gear not always necessary. But know how steep snowfield under summit, wouldn't go on chains on hard icy. So asked if possible without winter gear

Usually it's so trodden to the top of the shaft that you won't need crampons.

When I was here alone last week, I was the only one with proper crampons on my feet. Everyone coming after me had microspikes, which sufficed for ascent and descent, as the steps were nicely made.
I don't use them myself, just saying how it was.

Was there today.
Shaft is punched through, but very little left. Total about 5 meters.
For visiting this sight winter gear is pretty much mandatory.
