Today my son and I also used the day to view Matkov Škaf. We started via Kranjski rek, returned via Pavličevo sedlo and on Jezersko by the lake enjoyed a well-deserved coffee and ice cream. Conditions were super as predecessors described, the snow patch is nicely passable, the descent was surely a real pleasure. Škaf is really majestic this year and according to conversation with passers-by who are regular visitors of Škaf and Mrzla gora there has never been so much snow. Despite thunder accompanying us on the return there was no rain nasmeh.

There has been a lot of talk lately about Matkov Škaf, since I haven't been there yet I decided with friends to check out this wonder. We were early, so only four of us at the Škaf. Škaf is worth seeing. Weather wonderful, no wind, walking on snow no problem, not to mention descent. From the Škaf we went a bit higher to saddle in sun. On the return we met tons of hikers, later real crowd around Škaf. Nice, no regrets.

I was also at Škaf on Saturday. Since right from the path start there are no photos, I'm attaching my first two Saturday pics. So soon when turning from main road into Matkov valley, surprised by the sight on pics.
I caught this little beauty early, at the entrance to Matkov kot1
And even closer2
To better imagine the size of the pothole....3

How's the snow on path to Matkov Škaf. What gear needed now for the path, just hiking boots or something "wintery" too.

Hiking boots and poles enough. But watch out last part under Škaf where cracks and holes in snow appearing (melting below)!

Since I was on Sunday (with Tinky) at the škaf, I'll answer the above question: shoes with a good sole and poles are enough. Snow is soft on top, but doesn't break through below. Walking is, of course with appropriate caution - pleasant. Well, certainly for a more reliable step, crampons wouldn't be superfluous. That's how it was Sunday morning.

@tinky,
I've never been to the škafc, so your 15th photo
really depicted its size.
And the regulars say it's especially big this year.

@bojkoker,
nice cottage. I envy the owner.

On Saturday we also viewed it, then up there it was a real siege.

bojkoker,felix look at my photo of the hut taken on Wednesday morning. Construction workers stay in it, fixing the slope above the bridge towards Škaf. Tents in the garden too and collapsed fence, oh and soggy ground by the water

Irina... yeah, nice hut at first glance. Well, depends also how the photographer sees it and captures it in his lens. Definitely on my photos it could be a fairy tale house....

I'm wondering, has anyone been to the škaf in the last few days? Is anything left of it, or has summer already taken it for this year? Worth seeing it still?

Since older folks have trouble hiking mountains I decided to drive mom for a change to the heart of KSA!
Road passable with winter tires, snow ca. 1m.
