Whoever was in the mountains today already knows it was a nice day.
Walking on snow excellent, as the crust in the morning held my weight, of course not much snow...good 30cm and it starts halfway on the path from Črnivec. Up top blowing from SW side, I found shelter so enjoying the views was real. In the valley of course spring and there too I stopped a bit to take some shots.

On yesterday's sunny day I ascended from Črnivec pass to Kranjska reber. Descended via unmarked trail (road) to Mačkin Kot.
First part of the trail from Črnivec pass is quite overgrown, but can be bypassed by first walking the gravel road.

Past green pastures in the valley to real winter atop Kranjska reber. Track from Črnivec done, but probably not for long as new snowfalls are forecast. Snow up to 40cm towards the top.

I don't know how it is with bears in this area, but I think I saw traces of one today. eek

Otherwise, the trail is trodden, not much snow.

Obviously a furry one is really walking around the alpine pasture. I came across tracks already on Saturday, when they were still quite fresh. Some even turned back. I sang and whistled loudly so as not to surprise it accidentally.
I see you had much better luck with the weather on Sunday.

It crossed the path approx. 20 min below the summit.

When it's like this and you're alone, such tracks have even greater impact.....

btw. I saw tracks myself last time on Menina - Goli vrh, when I was lost, the feeling really wasn't pleasant zmeden

Yes, bears are waking from hibernation. They report on it also in Austria and Friuli.

Today with my grandchildren we went via Kašna Planina to Kranjska Reber. Windy, especially on top, so we barely squeezed into shelter just below the summit for a snack. Enjoyed company of cows and horses grazing on Kašna Planina. Tired and in good spirits back to the valley. nasmeh

Today the path to Kranjska Reber from Črni Vrh was hardly passable due to fallen spruces after the storm.

This area really has no luck. Already in 2008 it suffered severe storm jezen

Despite the cold, wind and trudging (sank deep past my knee) happy to have enjoyed nice views. From Črnivec to mid ascent the path was well passable then to the top a bit on ski tracks mostly on my own...everywhere deep in snow. Only on top so windblown and frozen that it doesn't sink.

On Saturday from Črnivec I headed to Kranjska Reber (Kašna Planina). Conditions very wintry. Lots of snow, track ahead made by a ski tourer but only to the planina-to the pasture. Further to the top trudging deep over knees. Physically demanding already through the forest to the planina. Fog and wind on top. Sun tried to break through the fog but didn't succeed. Still satisfied it worked out nasmeh

Today to Kranjska Reber from Kranjski Rak. Parking by the road full but everyone went elsewhere probably to Velika Planina. Didn't meet anyone. On the path only tracks of ski tourers that a bit eased the sinking while walking. High in the crowns roaring wind that bothered us little because the path mostly sheltered. Occasionally sun peeked out, views to Ojstrica, Veliki Vrh in Veža and Velika Zelenica wonderful. At Kal saddle started sinking deeper. From shepherd hut again wonderful views. Raduha all time in sun and wonderful. Recognized also Veliki Rogatec and Lepenatka. Quite some snow and crusty. Approaching top wind strengthened and right on top fog and windblown to the ground. Descent much easier. Very nice day and first time on this path. Will return to these areas. nasmeh

Under the roof there was an excellent spot for a snack and short rest

Morning served real winter grayness. At start still track of predecessors, higher footprints messed by cck. 10cm dry snow. A bit scrambling through bushes, somewhat following marks. Two hours steady walking to the top. On top a bit looking around, Milan comments the conditions and descent to the other side towards Lepenatka. At the hut snack and descent on the road plowed by snowmobiles. No more sinking and quick descent. Lower warmer, sun shines and snow soft. View from parking to the top already friendlier. And few degrees C more!
