Viševnik

As far as I know, even abroad cyclists are not allowed just on hiking trails (except where they are shared with bike paths). At least in national parks, neither hikers nor cyclists are allowed off marked trails.

Irina,

in what way is a cyclist on snowy Viševnik more dangerous to our natural heritage than a ski tourer who with his sharp edges is potentially dangerous to bushes, trees and, if the skier is careless enough, also to hikers?

I'm also interested in what way a cyclist on snowy Viševnik is more dangerous to our natural heritage than hikers who with their poles with sharp tips are not very friendly to roots peeking out from under the snow. In current conditions, crampons also "help" the poles.

More harmful to the environment and our heritage than a cyclist on Viševnik (doesn't matter if summer or winter) is motorized traffic (including of course passenger cars, not just motorcycles) in the Alpine valleys where we drive to the starting point of the tour with our vehicles. But that's already a taboo topiceek

Irina, have you ever been to Italy or Austria? Because if you had been there, you wouldn't be talking nonsense to me and all of us now.
Where you're scaring so thoughtlessly I've already biked many trails, and not just me. Even with a group of more than 30 so-called bike criminals we've roamed foreign mountains and nowhere have I met such intolerants as some individuals in our homeland. And not only that, Slovenian cyclists are even welcome in many places, because we are also tourists and consumers of goods that are paid for, not just users of nature who bring their sandwich and beer in a backpack.

In Switzerland and France the MTB policy is like night and day compared to ours. There signs for mountain bike tours are placed already from main roads at passes, with data on trail difficulty and duration. Bureaucracy here of all kinds that stifles development and the individual is already too much, on top we have to pay for such nonsense.

@GregorC,
why did you think I don't cycle and mountain bikers would bother me? No, they don't bother me at all, but on mountain trails that are barely wide enough for a safe step of a mountaineer, it's not okay for a mountain biker to ride too.
And the trail to Viševnik is already like that. Walking, not to mention riding off-trail, would destroy the environment even more, which nature already "processes" enough. There we are just visitors, but the mountain world also has its permanent residents who depend on that piece of world.
Even in Italy and Austria mountain bikers don't ride (we ride) on mountain trails, but where there is enough space for both or on trails only for one or the other.
After all, let's think also that although the Dolomites are under UNESCO protection, their area compared to our TNP is much larger. Often capital and profit are at play, which doesn't always consider Nature. Even with criss-cross walking we contribute to erosion destroying more than otherwise.
Last year we roamed Sardinia, also hills and where cyclists were racing on mountain trails it was torn up and the sight wasn't nice at all. Let's preserve what we have and not blindly follow fashion trends, because Nature already struggles to fix other messes behind us.

Well, if there's snow no panic, but if it's bare ground, no god. Two cyclists were already taught a lesson because of me, they went from Čavna down past the plateau to Lokavec. They didn't even squeak, because they knew it was forbidden.velik nasmeh

I think Viševnik environmentally really isn't a suitable mountain, because there in summer no one will ride on the hiking trail, but straight down. To preserve nature, the trail route must be wider and hardened passable, off the trail forbidden for riding.

@tine.si,
disrespectful speech doesn't mean your arguments hold true either.
By the way, I had the opportunity and roamed also other continents, not just Austria and Italy. Seen and experienced pristine nature that abroad they know very well how to monetize and places where in the race for money little remains of what a mountaineer or tourist would still want to see.

Irina, some think they can do whatever they want. I hope it will also soon be like with the neighbors at our place. Lp

Irina, so if we want to preserve pristine nature best to remove all iron of secured paths, all summit boxes, all huts and abolish all paths on which already without cyclists no smallest plant can grow and are surely 2x wider than cycling ones would be.
Would you then stop going to mountains if that was prohibited?

@ColEpsi,
I wanted only to say that slopes of Viševnik are not intended for cycling and from this unfortunately as often on this forum unproductive writing developed.

Tomorrow will be a nice day. Topic is Viševnik. To all who tomorrow head to its summit safe step and nice views. Good luck.

Well see, you said this already in first post, which is OK and I respect that.
In continuation you started to lecture how it is with neighbors but obviously don't know it well and so write whatever into three days.

And nice mountaineer greeting because also mountain cyclists are mountaineersmežikanje

Cyclists need to arrange cycling paths then let them enjoy as they want.
Definitely cyclists don't belong on mountain hiking paths and this especially for safety of both them and mountaineers-hikers.
When reading these posts I'd like to ask big advocates and defenders of cycling "everywhere" if they realize what all can happen on some narrow precipitous little path when recklessly rushes down and hits a child who from fear jumps to wrong side...
Think a little also about that of course... won't say all are wildlings but some I've met who even competed among themselves who first in valley...

pohodnik11, those who want to wild downhill usually ride on bike parks mežikanje Myself in mountains yet no bad experience with cyclists though met quite some. Usually even little chat about gear then each their way. For me no desire to drag bike to high mountains but gladly ride through mid-mountains also on some marked path. If I tell you honestly in high mountains more afraid of motor morons than cyclists who kick stones like on bet...

Irina, thanks for the answer!
I wish for more respect and tolerance in the future between different users on our paths also in the mountains.
Cyclists also wish for organized things and for an example one needs to look only across the border. Yes, limits are needed, but sensible ones; what is closed should be nicely marked, not the entire area closed which is currently the case with us.
Why then abroad do boys and girls not break laws? Not because they fear financial police, but because they simply don't need to. They have available thousands of km of organized paths, also on mountain paths and in high mountains. The share of closed paths for cyclists is small and that mostly individual path sections. With us though in offense practically immediately when you leave the main road.

To tine.si with all respect to mountain cyclists. When it will be like with neighbors you won't ride on Viševnik, Mrežce and similar summits. Wish you lots of pleasures on the bike. Lp

I'll ride just the same by myself a bit more relaxed, because such impatient folks won't be crapping on the forums about what I can and can't do by their norms.
