People looked at me strangely when I said I was going to Cold Mountain, so young, alone, ....the path is newly marked, don't scare yourself, that it's a very very demanding path, just instead of pegs you grab rocks, sometimes steep, but there are ledges, ...no panic, you go and see, as long as it's safe and you trust yourself, when you think it won't go, turn back without thinking.

I was also alone on Sunday yeah they really look at you strangely if you hike alone, a bit before the summit a young couple overtook me, but nice and slow I take my time observing the surroundings and maybe a good photo comes... then there were quite a few of us, descent the same everyone rushed ahead quickly down I again alone nice and slow because I wasn't in a hurry... you see a lot if you don't rush Best regards! Now stop already with this ALONE and ALONE... It's a matter of each individual, anyway there's another thread open about it...

@Urbanček, I don't know what bothered you so much about it? Some of us go to hills and mountains in pairs, others solo, third in larger groups, whatever suits who and when it works and fits. Occasionally I prefer to go in the company of myself, to find my inner peace, delve into myself and forget the problems that embitter my daily life!

Yes, alone, alone .... apparently it's some art to still adapt to someone else. And that's why you say, preferably alone. LP!

The vast majority of you who go to Cold Mountain from Okrešelj probably see at the beginning of the path on the right side the memorial plaque from 1926 to the deceased Pavle Šuman. Since I'm a historian, allow me to remind you of his completely forgotten adventure. Although his grandfather was a farmer's son from Slovenske Gorice (Zg. Ročica near Sv. Ana) who due to his sociability and diligence made an excellent teaching career at high schools in Maribor and Vienna, his aunt was already the flower of Ljubljana's urban elite and wife of the last Carniolan governor Ivan Šušteršič. His father Janko was initially a high official at the patent office in Vienna, then founder and director of the patent office in Belgrade. Brother Ivo was an officer and test pilot of the Yugoslav army who tragically crashed in Novi Sad on May 31, 1926. The family, which had already lost daughter Marica in the first war, went quietly to mourn in the Logarska Dolina. On July 22, 1926, Pavle, who was then studying medicine, went to visit his mother's relatives at Železna Kapla, but as he returned alone towards evening, Cold Mountain tempted him. He managed to reach the summit, but on the descent he slipped and fell in the dark... Parents lit bonfires and searched for him for several days before finding him. They buried him in the cemetery in Solčava. We can probably only imagine what the Šumans experienced in Okrešelj, who in just two months lost both their sons.

Shocking, sad. A person with different eyes reads the memorial plaque if they know the story. It's no longer impersonal. 'igorca', nice that you revived the memory of the family and the event.

On the link below (Šuman's cross-Mountains and people) facsimiles of Planinski vestnik No. 11 from 1926 are published, where additional data on Pavel Šuman's accident are listed - interesting reading! http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/61185/

Thanks for the excellent and extensive description @ igorca of the sad and tragic event almost a century ago and it's right that it was pulled from historical oblivion and presented by a professional historian...

Nice gasilec!! Thanks for that link, I was wondering during the hike (the day before I read igorca's explanation) if Šuman fell here, or if they just placed the memorial plaque at some suitable spot. So they found him higher up!

Well, see, as I wrote to you that it's a pity about the sky, but I was looking today towards Cold Mountain from Krofička. It was most of the day without fog so it was really excellent weather

Today I was on Cold Mountain from Okrešelj. Such weather is what one can only wish for. This mountain is really something special, maybe it captivated me because there are almost no cables and pegs, slight exposure in places, the exception is the quite exposed passage or ledge a bit below the summit, where I have to admit I had to catch my breath a bit when I crossed it. In short, an unforgettable day... unforgettable mountain... I'll definitely return to the top!!!

Hi JOZO! Nice shot, I have to admit, but your comment pissed me off. You take pictures and write but have no idea what you're commenting on. Have you even thought that maintenance is also done on the cargo cableway, that volunteers do it, that there are tons of work actions that ordinary hikers almost never participate in, for example maintenance, hauling wood.... Then you post a photo with my partner, which is even punishable since she didn't allow you to post it, and besides you don't even think why someone clears so that things work and you can drink beer that had to be transported from the valley. Well, for a few weeks now Okrešelj without cargo cableway because it's in maintenance. If you can look from below next time, report, maybe there's a way we don't know. L.p
