Mrzla gora

urbancek, based on all the writings, I also went to Cold Mountain for the first time on Saturday with exactly the same feelings. I chose the path from Logarska via Okrešelj. I had no orientation problems as the path is excellently marked. The difficulty itself is very relative. Based on previous experiences, the path didn't seem overly demanding to me, but definitely the path isn't suitable for everyone as Mali gobar already mentioned (climbing mastery, high rockfall danger...). I walked the path in just over two hours. Helmet use is mandatory though as rocks fly quite a bit, even if many relied on the strength of their own head.

Cold Mountain is only one, unique and really requires a "mature" mountaineer.
Good luck!

Thanks Lisa. I descended back to MK because I had the car there, although descent to Okrešelj would have been preferable; it would be a nice loop tour, maybe the path from Okrešelj is somewhat less demanding. Both are nice for sure, both require focus and care, definitely not for beginners. Also 1300 meters of elevation require some fitness and stable weather, especially from MK as there is no shelter. Maybe just this: such a summit deserves a logbook, because with unexpected fog or weather worsening, one could quickly find oneself in trouble on descent. Good luck everyone and best regards.

About orientation it's like this—who has experience and knows how fast one can get lost in the mountains won't have problems. There are actually as many marks as needed and they are where they should be. But there aren't as many as elsewhere and Cold Mountain for beginners doesn't offer many alternatives if orientation is lost and secondary descent options are sought. Difficulty is relative and it doesn't seem smart to encourage the undecided toward too casual an approach to such a mountain. Many people read these entries and many decide on their ascent choice based on them. Now judge for yourselves whether it's responsible to speak of a route's difficulty based on one's own feelings.

Safe steps to all, see you somewhere up there.

Cold Mountain isn't an easy mountain to conquer. You need some mileage, and everything polished in your head - especially for downclimbing when returning. In my opinion, it's definitely not for a beginner. I've been up there twice, from Mrzli Dol and Matkov Kot. I'll try also via Hudi Prasek, but I won't go alone. Maybe Mosovnik will take me along or someone else......nasmeh

On the ascent via Hudi Prasek it's hardest right at the entry, then all secured to the gully top. Follows finding the pathlet left and ridge traverse to Latvica entry.

Overslept this morning, so very late from home. From Belska Kočna to Presteralše. Along narrow track to pass into cirque between Krnička and Mrzla gora. As generally known, approach to Krnička gora now marked (red dots). After reaching summit of Krnička, I go a bit my own way. Just below SE ridge of Mrzla gora finally turn back. Not in mood for such climbs today. Back to ridge via very nasty traverse. Descent to cirque again a bit my own way. Above Presteralše 'crazy' idea hits me. Why not Mrzla from other side? Not tired yet... Up again. Right by long northern couloir to grassy bend then a bit up to prominent gully which I heard connects to marked path from Okrešelj. But, gully not friendly at all (very loose, short steps), especially in descent! To summit Mrzla gora enjoyable scramble. Now and then sun rays hit me again though it just looked different. Well, thundering somewhere far, so didn't hang around. On descent gully sucks me in again. Of course, how could I resist such direct descent line to valley (scree fields in between). nasmeh My knees were grateful.
Whole day, except two chamois, no living soul anywhere...

Regards.

Too bad you turned there! There starts the nicest part of the route (compact rock, nice and not too hard climbing). Maybe went too right towards Mrzla gora ridge, where steep and full of "rollers". No matter, as long as you enjoyed!

Yes, dprapr, a bit worried about weather, and no 'right feeling' (then prefer turn back), though didn't look too hard. Next time.

Regards.

Hi Volk!
On chamois paths you really won't meet many people, good that it's so. Bellflowers are nice, for me flowers on the hike are always first. Maybe it's good that you turned back, it once really soaked me on Mrzla gora, not pleasant especially if it thunders.
Good luck!

Today first time on Mrzla gora from Okrešelj, nice path, dry rock good for grip, since the weather held we continued to Ledine then climbing to Velika Baba and back to Rinka waterfall.

stankoju, we met at Jezersko Saddle. We caught up with the brave cyclists (there were two guys and a girl) at the top of Ledinski vrh, but we made way for you four on the descent to Ledine - you were fast like chamois. Nice greetings and good luck further!

"limona" yes I remember you, hope we meet more often so high up and safe in the mountains. Let me add that on Mrzla gora there's still no summit logbook, which is sad for such a mountain.

After a long time I took a short walk again and this time chose Mrzla gora. Due to bad afternoon forecast I was at the top already at half past seven, where I meditated for another hour and a half. Descended to Matkov kot and ran a few more km from Matkov kot to Logarska dolina, where transport picked me up at the junction. Path from Logarska is nicely marked, though sometimes I preferred the old one (very poorly visible marks). On the way to Matkov kot a wire rope is lying on the ground too, but not at key spot, no issues. From parking under waterfall to top 1.5h, same to parking in Matkov kot. Aja, on descent to latvice sometimes searched for path, faded marks and easy to stray to scree slabs or gullies. Nice tour that revived many memories.
