Mrzla gora

Yesterday my friend and I were on Mrzla gora. We went up past Okrešelj and then to the Turni. While we were still in the shade on the Turni, the chamois were already basking in the morning sun on the scree under Matkovo okno. So we also moved from the cold to the pleasant sunny slope under the window. We tackled the ridge towards Mrzla gora right over the quite pointed arch above Matkovo okno.nasmeh Continuing along the ridge offered us plenty of enjoyment. This time I tried some new nice passages myself, Milan his own.nasmeh Only at one I had to retreat, as it would be safe only with protection, but I didn't know if we had a long enough rope. So we took the usual left bypass past the larch, which isn't easy either. My even harder variant through the window above the gully I preferred not to repeat.velik nasmeh At the notch above Hudi prasek I took the variant along the gully on the right side, Milan the classic on the left. Just drop a bit to the shady Matkovo side and then up the very steep gully and beside it. Quite demanding climbing, which continues above the gully all the way to the top. At the top I shouted with joy, somewhere on the ridge Milan shouted back.velik nasmeh To Latvica it was just a few more ups and downs.nasmeh I continued along the ridge to the marked path, Milan went below across the scree. This part also has some varied details, especially at the junction to the marked path. A bit below the summit of Mrzla gora I caught up with Milan and together we reached its top. A deserved rest followed and then the descent along the marked path to the valley.
Best regards and safe steps to all from under the beautiful Golts, Janez

There is a very demanding marked trail to Mrzla gora from Matkov kot, which is also described on hribi.net:

You just need to search a bit.velik nasmeh

This summer I walked the trail in the worst heat:

Matkov kot - Mrzla gora - Koroška Rinka - Turski žleb - Okrešelj - Over Hudi prask back to Mrzla gora - back to Matkov kot to the car.

On the whole tour, the marked trail from Matkov kot to Mrzla gora is the least interesting.

At Okrešelj it was I think 27 degrees nasmeh

Today again on the "home" hill...
To the parking lot below Rinka the road is quite icy, especially further from Logarski kot, where it's not gritted. In the morning it was -8° at the end of the valley (at 8:30)! On return -4.
Uphill by the waterfall mostly dry, partly icy. But doable without crampons, despite possible acrobatics on descent.
From Okrešelj onwards it's snowy and trampled. Northern sides are whitened like Decemberzmeden, towards Mrzla gora dry and sun, which I enjoyed for exactly 3 hours. It skillfully hides up there.
At the second notch of Mrzla gora I put on crampons and cramponed to the top and back, although more dry than snowy terrain.
At the top again pure bliss, like last week on Matkova kopa. Just missing the deckchair...
Now it is already a real privilege to walk on snow.1
There is some of it after all.2
Towards Savinjsko sedlo almost snow-free.3
Start of the secured path.4
Špikec KSA.5
Eternal dilemma whether to take crampons along in December or not...6
Someone has already enjoyed it before me...7
Again a beautiful view.8
They are within reach.9
Last year in December there was noticeably more snow here, although there was little too.10
From Ojstrica to Brana.11
It's nice up here, for the soul...12
Again they were naughty to be in the fog.13
Panorama for the Savinjci team.14
It was hard to leave the summit again.15
I'll be back.16

Thanks.
Slowly I'll be up there more often than on Pohorje. That's why the mention of "home" hill.
Sometimes I envy them that surname..., only sometimes. It's nicer for us who go there only when the weather is nice, than for them who are always there and have to deal with us and hard work in the forest.

Today on Mrzla gora. I also put on crampons at the second notch and cramponed towards the top. Views excellent, I was alone at the top. On descent I met rescuers training. But descent from Okrešelj without crampons is still a real challenge...icy sections that don't allow bypasses...damn.
Towards the saddle.1
At times the snow completely runs out2
Such sections need to be traversed.3
Or such ones..4
But there is a lot of bare ground...5
6
The summit too.7

On the descent met guys on exercises.9

Mrzla gora must be quite a tough nut in these conditions. My buddy and I watched it from Ojstrica yesterday and I told him it's the most demanding marked mountain in KSA for me (and others) and many hikers save it for the finale in this range. nasmeh

I also visited Mrzla gora today.
If anyone goes up in the next few days, I'd kindly ask to check from the cross on top approx 20 meters towards Rinke. I forgot my Swiss Craft long-sleeved shirt in a bag there. I treat the finder to a beer nasmeh

thanks for the reply, as it's unlikely it waited in place. Probably somewhere in Austria or in Logarska nasmeh

But I'd ask, what's the name of the neighboring mountain. On the map first to the left of Mrzla gora. I climbed it and altimeter showed 2100 m asl. On top only border marker. View towards Mrzla gora and snapshots on the way to the top...
