SamoK and Lepenatka, well said, for Dprapr I wouldn't put my hand in the fire, although he's interpreting based on terrain knowledge as a longtime mountaineer. As said, due to huge visitation nowadays, mountaineering culture declining everywhere, erosion of rock sediments due to poor winters and big temperature swings, all this contributes in mountains to more caution and at least minimal self-protection with mountaineering gear. Detailed local conditions only a handful of frequent mountaineers know, so most can't and shouldn't rely only on their tips.

Rok, seems to me you're all exaggerating a bit (me with posting here ) with this friability and "sediment collapse" and similar. All that existed already when mountains were visited and before. Read some old PV articles and you'll see lots of similarities. Or ask someone who's been hiking mountains for half a century, like some here. Only different is route visitation, which is good. Even better if more young people on these routes. No problem avoiding these peaks if we don't want risk falling rocks. Plenty less dangerous and less visited routes. As for helmet, let people put it on where they think needed and don't nag them after trip. Sometimes you have to experience on your own skin. Probably all know it's protection from falling rocks and they don't wear it to make everyone here happy.

Nothing wrong exchanging opinions on forum even more often. Falling rocks are general fact in mountains, but comparing frequency of rockfalls now and just decades ago, no comparison. Why? Because winters then looked snowy. Snow was thick, covered and encased walls until spring thaw. Thus water didn't go directly into rock and expand it on refreezing. That happens now with winter temp swings, rock not encased in ice or snow-covered. Mountains are environment that elevates and ennobles spirit, but with general population growth, not only in mountains, there always are individuals who don't know how to behave on paths, in bivouacs, simply not taught or personal morals zero. So I think care for at least minimal safety with gear, apart from external natural factors on mountain we can't influence or predict, we can improve. Thirty years ago only alpinists wore helmets, now I put it on more often myself, let people think what they want.

Viharnik, I assure you, decades ago rocks flew just the same as today.

Best to open this topic in General talk and leave Mrzla g. in peace. Never had helmet crossing to Matkov kot. Not writing this so you don't use it.... lp

Also Slap Čedca, NW wall of Dovški Gamsovec, Razor, NW Pihavec, south Pipar in W. Julian Alps, part of Goličica and Peak near walls in Prisank... stood proudly then. All these facts are best confirmed in practice by alpinists who are at home in the walls.

Morning promised a nice sunny day and from the Ledine hut I descended via Savinja saddle on the path to Okrešelj hut, but only to the junction and left to Mrzla gora, where my interesting perfect day started... The path first started on a grassy trail, then transitioned to a rocky and sandy path and thus led us to the walls, where we geared up with helmets, stowed the poles and started scrambling. Mrzla gora is mysterious, justifiably not too visited, but beautiful and concentratedly demanding. Of course I had nice company in the walls, also first-timers like me that day. Together, slowly and carefully we reached the summit, the feelings that overwhelmed us were beautiful. After meditative soaking up the beauty from the top we descended carefully and slowly. Here mistakes are not allowed, so caution...

Zvončnica, nice and interesting ascent with wonderful photographs. About the difficulty of Mrzla gora you nicely wrote in the last part of the post. "After meditative soaking up the beauty from the top we descended carefully and slowly. Mistakes are not allowed here, so carefully..."

In the mountains we find kindred souls. Mrzla gora was a real paradise on Sunday for three pleasure seekers who met at Mrzli dol - Primorsko-Štajerska connection and together headed to this worthy mountain. We spent a wonderful day climbing, photographing and in pleasant company. Zvončnica, you nicely presented our joint outing and I'm glad we met.

Congratulations to all for the successful ascent and descent from Cold Mountain. For me this mountain is the queen of KSA.

If anyone heads to Cold Mountain from Matkov kot (and it's first time there, maybe even at night) it's good to know the direction sign is currently down. This info would have been useful to me today

Beautiful autumn day was today and I spent it on a circular tour Matkov kot-Mrzla gora-Okrešelj-Logarska dolina-Matkov kot. No more snow on the path, but golden larches are still there But it's already almost November - in the shade it's already cold and frozen, hard scree slopes. Under Latvica I admired a herd of chamois (probably the same as on dprapr's picture), which moved nicely one after another from Hudi prasek towards Krnička gora and triggered whole cannonades of stones. I counted as many as 24!
