For via ferrata lovers

Yesterday's professional excursion/adventure in the Water Channel of Huda Luknja Cave brought us participants a bit closer to the wonderful underground world again. When we started gathering at Huda Luknja in the morning, excitement was in the air before entering the cave. All night until then it had rained heavily, so rivers rose properly. Of course, the Ponikva sinkhole rose too, all foamy and rushing out of the water channel. Experienced caver Matic reassured us at the cave entrance that we could be carefree about that and that we should worry most about the ferrata.mežikanje With instructions on how to tackle it, we headed into the channel. I was the only one in the group who knew what awaited us, as I'd been inside before. Other participants faced it for the first time. And there was plenty to experience.
All these channels formed due to faults. Consequence is interesting karst phenomenon of Ponikva stream sinking, which at the very cave start flows into Paka River gorge. Cave inhabitants like beetles, spiders, snails, crayfish, bats and more we didn't see, as they cleverly hid from us. In Medvedji rov of Huda Luknja Cave they've counted up to 2000 bats hibernating squeezed in tight groups, so cave is one of the most important bat caves in Central Europe. One beetle is even named after Tisnik hill above the cave.
Ferrata that enables viewing this channel is routed really well and allows visitor with good dose of adrenaline to discover this underground wonder. We all overcame it successfully, but with quite a lot of calories burned. Shame that due to risen Ponikva full channel view wasn't possible. All wet, muddy from clay, sand and gravel Ponikva brings from surface and full of impressions after two hours we returned to start and only there exchanged first impressions, as it roared too loud in channel for talk. They were very different. From total enthusiasm to biggest fear in life with total enthusiasm.
But we all agreed it was worth every sweat drop.

On Sunday we were again in this wonderful water channel. There was significantly less water this time and we easily reached the end of the channel and learned a lot of new things about the underground world again. The conditions for photography were much better too, so quite some photo material accumulated.nasmeh
One participant had bad luck that day outside and inside the cave, but I'm sure she'll forget it quickly and only nice memories of our pleasant company will remain.
