In this group of mountains, we have included the entire southern Primorska region, the wider area of Snežnik, Slivnica, and Krim, as well as Goriško with the Trnovo Forest all the way to the Logatec Hills.
The Snežnik Hills are the highest in the mentioned area and are declared a landscape park. The highest peak is Veliki Snežnik (1,796 m), from which, in good weather, there is a beautiful view over a large part of Slovenia, parts of Croatia, and Italy. In the area of Snežnik Landscape Park, the brown bear lives, often approaching villages.
The entire area of the mentioned mountain range is on karst soil. The karst world is characterized by a large number of caves. The most famous is Postojna Cave, but the others are also very interesting. It is also worth mentioning the numerous ice caves, for example on the slopes of Krim and in the surroundings of Kočevje and Trnovo Forest. Ice caves are karst caves where snow and ice persist for most of the year. Unfortunately, in recent years, the snow in the mentioned caves is disappearing.
In the Goriško area, the Soča River dominates, which has carved deep steep valleys.
In the mentioned group, there are also the peaks of Kras, the Karst Edge, and the coast.
