I went to Ljubelj by car.
Then old Ljubelj, Košutnica, Velk vrh, Kladivo, etc.. along ridge to Dolga njiva where someone picked me up I walked 7h.
On top of that weather was very bad, almost rained all along the path.

Jelen, 7h? Including Košutnica and to Dolga njiva that's good time.
Traversing yes in one day, especially early summer days when day at 5am, with organized transport on both sides.

Today from Matizovec over ridge to Kofce gora and then to Kladivo. Snow morning nicely firm, on return softened. Weather was. Literally everything from rain, fog, sun, wind, snow, clouds, anything goes  But still much better than view to Grintovci, where constantly clouded pm.

Nice hike on Tuesday, 8. 5. 2012. Jelendol - Dom na Kofcah - Veliki vrh - Malo Kladivo - Veliko Kladivo. Satisfaction was marred only by forgetting my trekking poles somewhere. Gotta buy new ones anyway. Although Black Diamond isn't exactly cheap. But the most tragicomic thing is I can't remember where I actually left them. Yeah, happens when you're scatterbrained. Still recommend the tour.

In June I'd like to traverse Košuta. Specifically want to hike this route: Matizovec, Kofce, Kofce gora, traverse to Košutnikov turn, descent to Dolga njiva and return via pastures to Kofce and back to valley. Ridge path probably normally marked, is it also via pastures? Ask for estimate how long for this path at normal pace. My speed a bit higher than on hribi.net. Thanks.

If your speed is really a bit higher, count good 9 hrs, better say under 10 hrs net, depending on pics and snacks gross increases as you like. Good 4 hrs from Dolga njiva back to Matizovec, drags really.
If two cars possible or pickup, better include Košutica and start from Ljubelj.

I did similar tour years ago. Started from planina Pungrt and footpath to Pl. Dolga njiva then to Tolsta Košuta. Traversed to Košutnikov turn - that part already alpine and unmarked of course. From turn on all marked. Nice view path; one part technically harder but chain there. From Kofce gora turned down to planina Šija. From there to Pungrt really dragged. Needed good 8 hrs, true I hike faster than official times.

I also traversed Košuta, but not fully, because from Tekoška gora on just before Košutni turn chain and I got fully scared there, turned back to pastures then again to Veliki vrh past Kofce, still tempts me that ridge part with wire, apparently young guy fatal accident there, but 3 yrs ago when I did it, now different story. About 25km hike, I'd recommend in two or three parts.

Why two or three parts? If fit, no problem to do in one day. Robter, thx for Košutica tip, first chance I'll do that variant.
For non-ridge, pasture variant Tržič - Kofce - Dolga njiva and back we two last summer needed under 9.5 hrs.

Oh. Misunderstanding. Count 10 hrs total path. No incidents.
Of that approx 4 hrs from Dolga njiva back. In faster running variant 1:45-2 to Pungrt, then 30 min Šija, again 30-45 Kofce then descent Matizovec. Total cca 4h.

I'm interested in some info about crossing Košuta from Kladivo to K. Turn.
I plan to start at pl. Pungart, to the saddle and to Kladivo, then drop back to the saddle and towards K. Turn. Then descent to sp. Dolgo Njivo and back to start.
If someone from experience can tell me how many hours to reserve for the path from Kladivo to Turn at normal walking and how trodden or marked this path is and if there are any special features on the whole route.

From Pungart to Škrbina good hour, same to Kladivo (total 2.5h), back to Škrbina 1h
From Škrbina to Turn about 3-3.5h, depending on pace, then 1h to Dolga Njiva and another 2.5h back to Pungart.
Path is visible all the way, also marked. Across Macesja and descent from Ostrvi secured with cable on exposed parts.

I was twice in winter several years ago on Veliki Vrh alone. Don't know the other mountains in this chain yet. Now I'd like to do a nice loop - from Mrzli Studenec, then Veliki Vrh, Veliko Kladivo? What about Kofce Gora then? Especially interested in the path, is it precipitous (goes S side) or all along the ridge.
Maybe this question sounds newbie, but veterans' info is always most useful! =)

If you go from Veliki Vrh to Kladivo, you cross Kofce Gora in between. Path is practically all the time along the southern slope, so any fear is unnecessary

katka check first page. Best go from Kofc along ridge to Kofce Gora, then right to Malo Kladivo, to Veliko Kladivo, back again to Kofce Gora and towards Toplarji and to Veliki Vrh.
