It's been a long time since I was up here.
Since there was fog below, it pulled us up to the sun.

Before the Valvasor hut I leave the car and head up to Stol via the Žirovnica path. The crampons stayed in the backpack.

You can get to Jamovec by car, or rather one or two bends higher, then it's the end because the road isn't plowed, so I walked half an hour to the Valvasor hut. Today I went, for a change, up Zabreški gor and to Prešernova hut I didn't need crampons. I put them on higher at the saddle when going to Stol summit. Little wind, and that only at the top, then on the descent via Žirovniška real heat for this time. Both paths quite torn up and quite a few avalanches on both sides, nicest part from saddle down the gully, compacted frozen snow, real enjoymentnasmeh

Snow starts at Jamovec, from there on it's a lottery, although the last 2 cars were parked some 200 m below the turnoff for Potoška

27.1.2022 Stol
Ascent via Žirovniška path. Above 700 m ice starts on the path. Up to Valvazorjev dom no crampons, a bit higher than the hut at the benches on the viewpoint we put on crampons. Then steeply up the gully to the saddle. From the saddle a few more minutes of steep terrain to the summit. Windy, mostly cloudy.
Descent to Mali Stol and snack at Prešernova koča.
Descent via Zabreška path. Traverses require caution. Snow frozen, windslabs where it sinks in, crusty, wet, all was found on the path.
Ascent and descent require caution and experience!

Just before the last two bends it was possible to drive by car. At the last bend straight up to the hiking path. New snow maybe 0.5 cm. Two must have been ahead of me to Prešernova koča, further to the summit tracks from ski tourers from the Austrian side. Right at the summit blowing from SW, so didn't linger long. Descended the gully all the way to the benches.

On Wednesday morning I decided and went up to Stol. Parked at Završnica and continued on foot towards Valvasorjev dom. From the hut to Stol via the Žirovniška path and back via the Zabreška path. Super weather, super tour.

The only thing to watch out for are the traverses below Prešernova koča on the Zabreška path back. Snow is already very melted, wet/mushy, so it was quite slippery and sinking. Very careful, if possible bypass them a little higher above the path and back to the Zabreška path and nicely to Valvasorjev dom. Lp, Ticko

Hi all! Yesterday we were on Stol. Conditions are as follows. To Zabreška planina or junction at the forest cutting no issues. Here snow on the path starts. Locally icy, but doable without gear. Higher up some snow tongues, dangerous cracks in places, so we went round on steep grass. From koča to Stol summit trodden snow, down caution as it sinks a lot. Best around on grass. Overall descent more dangerous than ascent. We went without gear and safe up and down. Žirovniška path said to be very icy and no way up or down without gear! Some pics...

Hi. Was there yesterday, and especially on the Žirovniška side from Prižnica winter gear is needed. But I also found the following: 2x buff and one pair of sunglasses. Whoever misses them should get in touch.

On holiday Wednesday via Zabreška. Just before the summit slope to the hut there's one snow tongue to cross (20m), otherwise OK. From saddle to summit snow, track is there, gear at discretion.

Two days ago there was only one very small snow patch, gear no longer needed.
