Has anyone been to Stol in the last days via the climbing path from Austria? Passable without winter gear? Thanks for info.

A bit before Valvasor I leave the car and climb through pathless forest to the marked path. Track made, higher 30cm snow. Past the hut and to the summit, then descended straight down the western ridge. Didn't put on crampons, as it was collapsing. Lower descended the gully but much lower turned onto a short path to join the marked one, soon to the bench and back to car.

I was up there yesterday. Up via Žirovnica, down via Zabreška path. Snow starts at 1400m. Continuous track from 1600m. Took automatic crampons, because last time exactly one year ago, didn't want to risk with microspikes. But microspikes perfect choice now. Can reach summit also without, but still worth having at least microspikes, shame to risk slip and ruin the day. Snow unconsolidated, like concrete only on south slopes, and even there mostly collapses. The track itself ok, not like highway as now to Viševnik. To Valvasor hut muddy. Snow despite unusually high temps dry / crusty. Gaiters recommended.

Yesterday 5.1. Did a tour from Valvazor to Stol-small Stol-Potoški Stol-Vajnež-Belska planina-Valvazor. Path to Stol well trodden and hard- crampons recommended. From Stol towards Vajnež the surface alternates a bit hard a bit soft with sinking to knees. Tour took less than 8 hours, nice day.

You went to Potoška planina, not to Belska.

First to Belščica aka Belska planina, then descent towards Potoška planina.

Saturday, nice day, too hot, start at Završniško jezero, road to Valvazor passable, up Žirovniška, down Zabreška...

On Stol, sinking quite a bit and wet up to the neck, met three young ski tourers going up. Down the wide gully between both Stols right down the back one... Toll from May on.

Today up via Žirovniška, down via Zabreška.
Žirovniška is, except some fallen trees, without issues. Snow starts above Prižnica.
On Zabreška, great caution is needed at the crossing as there is still much snow.

Today from Valvazor via Žirovniška to Stol. Descent gully between Stols to junction to Potoški Stol, hop to Vajnež past bivouac to Urbas back to Valvazor. Snow from saddle between Stols to Stol summit. Few snow patches on ridge to Potoški Stol and to Vajnež down to bivouac. South snow, no crossing issues.

Some Tuesday impressions from the nice circular path to Stol. Up via Zabreška path, down via Žirovniška path. Both paths to the hut are muddy. Towards the summit there was still some snow.
