Špik

Circular route to Špik started at Pišnica, past the Koča v Krnici to the summit. Not sure if the path is still closed or not, but small landslide doesn't hinder the passage much. Path to the summit nice and b.p. Return through Kačji graben no issues, just classic slippery stones and rocks from constant shade and damp terrain. Be a bit careful. Views for the gods. velik nasmeh

I headed up there where silence whispers. Started hiking to Špik only at eleven. No one from Krnica followed. Slept in that hut. First time ever. Alone in room on shared bunks. Paid 10 euros. Warden told me, didn't even ask. For bed with sheets. Had plenty time for ascent and descent. Chose not Kačji graben for descent but same way back. Very muggy Saturday. Views gorgeous.

So let's go a bit to snow, a bit to sun and endless views...ascent and descent over Kačji graben, which I'd easily rename "looong graben"velik nasmeh, no end.
Snow starts where forest ends, conditions in shade excellent, summit part "warmed" by sun and holds poorly, so descent especially careful. Quite some visitors and yes worth it, views really fantastic, weather warm and no reason to go to the valley, so descent ended in darkmežikanje

After long years again on Špik.
Usually just admire it when driving below past it.
Kačji graben in such "winter" also different from summer tiring one,...
In upper part as written somewhere in safe hiking tips, namely main problem excellent conditions.
On top views as befits such impressive peak in Martuljek.
View from the natural bivouac.1
The snow is hard, slipping is not recommended.2

Last Saturday, a group of seven did the classic tour to Špik. Up via Lipanca, snow patches on the path start at 1800 m, from 2070 m onwards the snow cover is very hard/icy and crampons are necessary. We descended through Kačji graben, down to 1850 m very hard with mandatory crampons, below 1800 m no more snow. Weather and conditions excellent.

Super conditions, little snow. I agree with predecessors: https://bojanambrozic.com/2016/12/24/spik/

For me it was the first high-altitude tour after three months.

Yesterday (27.12.2016) I was on Špik. Up over Lipnica, snow starts approx at 2000 m, snow hard, all winter gear needed. Descent over Kačji graben, snow almost to end of scree or to larches. Lower path without peculiarities.

Morning webcams showed clear above 2000 m so we two decided to go to Špik through Kačji graben. Ascent strenuous, long and offers nice views. Conditions OK, track good.

Yesterday, 20.2. I went solo. Up without problem without crampons and ice axe, track mostly hardened and feeling like walking on endless stairs. For descent mainly ice axe quite helpful especially for safer feeling.

But it can be quite different already today. If yesterday icy only below, today maybe/probably already much higher.

Otherwise crazy nice day, warm, no breeze... One more photo for couragenasmeh

Today's conditions - approach and descent over Kačji Greben.

Forest road to the turnoff is completely icy and awkward to walk. Soon realized no one was ahead, had to break trail. Snow (except first 100-200m elevation in forest) dry and practically unprocessed, partly windpacked - sinks to knees. But crust is forming due to wind and afternoon sun, doesn't hold a person yet. Behind me ca. 15 hikers (PD Črnuče and few others), so track (or better staircase) quite well trodden. Views from the top really to "die for" cool
