Since I'm from Ljubljana, I like to head to Šm.g., so I'm interested if, besides the usual paths I've walked myself or listed in hiking guides, there is also some other path, maybe less crowded? Thanks for the answer.

From Tacen it's best to go to Sp.Kuhinja, then we go on the level of Kuhinja left across Zatrep and later turn right to Freedom Path. On the ridge when our path joins Vestrova from Vikrč then right to top of Šm.Grmada and extension to top of Šmarna gora. Otherwise suggest a jump to nearby Polhograjce where there's more space, i.e. more paths and variants and more peace at the same time. E.g.1.Slavkov dom-Jeterbenk (along ridge)2.Tošč from Rovtar or Omejca.3.Dom Govejek-Gontarska pl.-Veliki Babnik-Rovtar...

But I have to say that it really annoys me, because no path leading to Šm.gora is named after Jakob Aljaž, as he was born at its foot (Zavrh) and served on it for some time. Even his father served on it as church sexton. Also, when he lived in Dovje, he always carried his mountain and the village below it in his heart.

On top of Šmarna Gora you can buy a postcard where almost all paths are marked. I have hiked all of them myself.

Many thanks to POLJANC and Gorazd for the explanation and help. That means the path from the birthplace to the top is Aljaž's path. I'm very glad. I'll buy the postcard the first time I go up. I'll get the book right away too, hope it's available. I'm surprised I didn't notice it in the library either, or it was always borrowed when I browsed that section. Best regards and take care.

Today I quickly went up via Spodnja kuhinja (name from Turks who set up kitchens and camps on the plateau for besieging Smarna Gora). Up top I meet a classmate and a female classmate from 30 years ago (elementary school), we drink tea and chat in the warm sun. Up at the saddle there's a few cm of snow and also in the church's summit steeple. Paths are all dry and nicely walkable without mud. Smarna Gora with its height of 45 houses, 8m high, stacked one on another already distances from the valley smog visible from the top on the horizon. Because of that I even with the naked eye, later with binoculars noticed that on Grintavec a strong wide track-spur to the top is already made. View without a cloud. Lp!

My body couldn't handle any two-thousander so Smarna Gora was the right choice for today, the weather didn't promise anything nice either, but the nice northern slopes of Grmada where narcissi are currently blooming and in large numbers. On the saddle the sheep with young offspring, goats and a donkey cheered me up. It drizzled a bit, few visitors. Since I forgot my wallet at home and camera I stayed without tea and without photos of narcissi. Lp!

Nice words about Šmarna gora. It's true that we have such a mountain near Ljubljana that has so many different attractions in one place. Let's preserve what we have. As for money, I've also come to the mountain without a wallet several times, but the friendly staff in the inn always served me on credit.

Are the Ledineks still up there? Many years ago when the Ledinek family was at the accident anniversary (Aug 22... Jožica above Doliča was hit by lightning) and then Miha and I under full moon dashed to Triglav in the middle of the night, let someone greet Miha for me. More than 30 years ago I was also a frequent visitor to Smarna Gora.

Yes, yes, Ledineks are still there... Well Miha has "retired", handed over the inn to his daughter, but "breathes down her neck all the time", since he can't without Šmarna . I'm a very frequent visitor to this mountain, so I'll gladly pass on the greetings. Minca

Iskalec, thanks for the info about credit. If I had known that..... . Igor, true Smarna Gora is quite far from your place of residence, but maybe the path will take you around here in the future and then come greet it.

Oh, Smarna is for all occasions and all days of the year. If you don't know where to go, if you don't have much time but want to stretch your legs, if you want to be alone or in company, it's always there and always "happy" to see you. And, since I never go anywhere without my camera, over the decades of visits various photos have been taken. My favorite is last year's and I named it "room with a view". A couple and below them Ljubljana. Young and in love, can there be anything more beautiful?

Seeing numerous cars under Smarna Gora I already thought that today is not Monday or a workday. Time was 7:45 and quite a few people were already returning to their vehicles, maybe rushing to work or other errands, in short the pace of life is getting faster and too hectic, I think this is not good for all of us. What is the cause, I don't know. Nice regards!

SMARNA GORA IS THE LAW. IF YOU GO VIA MAZIJEVA OR WESTROVA THERE IS REALLY NO CROWD. NICE GREETINGS TO ALL LOVERS OF SMARNA GORA. SEE YOU.
