Thanks, Ajda. The pictures nicely show the condition, some more has been newly piled up.

How is the drivability of the road to Planina Blato at this time?

Drivable and with toll collector.

Symbolic contribution of 10 euros. The road was quite poor on Sunday, patched up barely, as asphalt was dug up in places.

Hm... already with toll collector too, I hoped it wasn't yet, oh well, have to reconcile with the "symbolic" contribution. Thanks for info.

Yay, yay, yay, Bohinj folks... that a frog like me outsmarts you: jezik

So, last weekend on Saturday I used the nice weather for a trip to Bogatin. Armed with knowledge and info about the perfectly drained Bohinj parking system and filling cash registers with fines from clueless tourists who park according to traffic rules but not some phantom municipal decree, I set off.

Plan A was to leave the car in front of Mercator at the Lake, where there was (so naive frog me thought) still the only free parking spot in Bohinj and bike to Savica and from there hike to Komna,...

But Bohinj folks, you put a meter there over the winter too. jezen OK, SWITCH TO PLAN B and we become less diplomatic too. mežikanje

Armed again with knowledge that at Savica they charge 3 EUR, that one and only collector runs like mad on the parking lot and it's a private lot where no wardens operate if you don't pay, I stay at the above-mentioned lot at the Lake just long enough to change to hiking shoes, pack backpack and gear and have all ready 'at hand'.

Then I drive towards Ukanc and check on the way if somewhere to park. But dear Bohinj folks, you equipped everything with those meters with astronomical rates. jezen Never mind...

I arrive at the Savica lot. Park as far from the entrance as possible. Handbrake, grab gear, out, lock and away! Poor collector who was already approaching didn't even get it. Those 3 EUR I saved I rather gave for beer on the way back at Komna! And 20 cents left! That's dear Bohinj folks all I spent with you, food for trip bought at home. Anyway it'd be the same Mercator! And hut at Komna isn't yours but PD's. nasmeh

On return around 18h I went to check if that woman in shack before path to Slavica waterfall had already packed but saw she didn't. As I was in a hurry for date at eight (hour to home and still shower) no time to wait. Next time if I arrive early or leave late. Waterfall will stand there some time, to your beautiful Bohinj I'll surely come again. jezik

Then of course similar procedure back to Lake, change shoes, unpack and back to my hometown!

If you're already such Scots (worse than Bohinj folks) I advise using the shortcut from the path to Komna for visiting Savica, which nicely bypasses the collectors below. But I'd still say that tolls aren't collected only in Bohinj. For example, access to Locatelli hut under Tre Cime costs 20 EUR for a measly couple of km and parking.

Of course, that's why go to Tre Cime from Sexten, on nice mountain path from parking a bit outside town (before Hotel Dolomitenhof if I recall). Parking there of course 3 or 4 EUR, anyway cheaper and nicer trip. And here you avoid if you return late because around 19h or 20h barrier opens and they stop charging. Morning don't know when to arrive.

And yes, I know abroad full of this as I travel other countries too. Most impressive in fleecing tourists (not just parking) are Italy and Netherlands. Won't say what refined parking system some in north Europe devised for fleecing tourists so our Bohinj folks don't copy.

Nice example is Swiss Zermatt. There no car into town. Already in valley sign: 'Weiterfahren verboten!' And of course first pay parking in valley (some 5 CHF in 1999 when I was there) then rack railway to town (some 10 CHF). Prices now at least half higher I think.

And when up at station and town (say Hostel where I slept) you see propaganda leaflets like magazines... praising how all for ecology, preserving clean Alps and blah blah, see electric service vehicles,... but... in front of every private house still a car... hmmm... and then from reliable sources learn locals can drive up that 'verboten' road. Parallel with local Bohinj folks who have annual parking card for some 10 EUR obvious!

BTW so Bohinj folks don't think... annual parking card in Ljubljana center for locals is 100 EUR.

Rinča, don't use the phrase "crazy hours", so you won't get deleted like I was. Also don't write anything negative about the Bohinj folks and their mayor, so the editor doesn't delete you.

Tadej, thanks for the deletion.
Why am I biased against the Bohinj masters of profiteering?
I've always been an advocate that even such luxury as the possibility of saving a couple of hours of walking should be paid for. Unfortunately, on September 9 I was convinced that for the Bohinj folks it's purely and simply about "fleecing" the users of this road. I paid properly at the barrier and then follows a circus you can only imagine. First slow driving meter by meter behind cows heading to morning pasture, from the barrier to the pasture below the Vogar trail junction. When I think the problems are over now, traffic jams line up one after another.
Surprised I observe a considerable number of cars returning despite morning hours and beautiful weather. The reason follows at the end of the asphalt. From there to the parking at planina Blato cars are parked along the road one after another. Since parking is impossible, with great difficulty I turn the car and decide to go elsewhere based on what I saw. The idea is good, execution very, very difficult. Telling someone that they had to drive a few kilometers in filigree precise reverse driving isn't exactly easy, and if there are many of them it's mission impossible.
When I finally reach the asphalt and we start descending, new and new drivers drive towards us. After all the troubles I finally manage the return to the entrance barrier. I tell the young lady that it would be fair to return my 10 EUR and not let anyone else through the barrier because parking is no longer possible anywhere. She replies that parking is done at the roadside. Every explanation that it's not possible because cars are already parked at the roadside from planina Blato to planina Vogar is in vain.
Enriched with new knowledge from the story that we are tourism people I drove elsewhere where they didn't charge me neither toll nor parking.
p.s. With the collected money they could patch a few ugly potholes and asphalt the intermediate decorative gravel inserts.

It will indeed be as the bitterly-difficult-mission impossible described by julius.
Namely, according to road traffic and stationary traffic laws, every mountain road that falls under passable roads and is thus charged by some municipality decision, here they should mandatorily arrange the roadway, passing areas for meeting, bank reinforcement and ongoing road surface check as well as mandatory final turning area and parking. Just about this pressing problem my colleague and I talked in Valvasor hut. So much as they collect there over the year, they could resurface the asphalt three times along the entire mountain road length. If that money goes to other purposes, which is already a staple in our country, then the promised for road users won't come for a long time. Last time I was there, I turned around at the ramp and preferred to drive to Pokljuka.

@julius:

It's better now to go up than during the season time, Bohinj sees me only once then and even that I'm already at the parking lot at 5.00 am.

They are still collecting the toll.!
The price is unchanged (10 EUR, vans 12 EUR)
Verified today 20 October 2012.
It would be very desirable to post only verified data, so as not to mislead all the others.
p.s. Today it was really nice around here.
