Where they know how to charge parking lots.... There are few tourists, locals, Slovenians too. Some just can't wait to take pics of quasi-occupancy; they probably wait for days. What, do they sit, bivouac nearby and watch when it'll be at least 3/4 full so they can later report how tourism is booming and bursting at the seams? Who are you fooling with these lies when I drive alone on the old road because I have no vignette and don't want one? I love old roads and see how tourism is tanking here. Sometimes it looks like a horror flick when practically almost nowhere there's anyone.

Bohinjci by today's standards are just "successful and innovative"...like those "successful entrepreneurs" who often don't pay taxes, don't pay workers, hide in tax havens... Yeah the morality of not paying workers and ripping off with such parking fees is quite similar...

Many times I've gone from Planina Blato on mountain tours, and paid parking too, though not as high as written. Now I rather go across the border, not because of parking fee, there is one there too, but fewer crowds and more solitary paths.

Why foreigners?
If we look at our car fleet on the parking lots under the hills, I don't have even the slightest feeling that visitors couldn't do without these 20 euros 1x or 2x a year, even though it's pricey. The locals we besiege know this well. More than 1x or 2x a year (and that's already too much), it's not even fair to the others to hang around there if there's a big crowd.
Nothing's wrong with going often to places where there's no crush. We'll have to get used to it sooner or later.

Ten years ago I wasn't even a little worried that I couldn't get to the starting point or that the starting point would be unreasonably expensive (or closed). Instead of adapting to mass visits and promotions, they started raising prices to the skies to make a selection with that.(how dumb do you have to be to pay 15€/day for the upper parking and 3€/h below?)..so that the upper part gets clogged, when it's already more critical for locals. The car fleet isn't a measure since you don't see those who can't afford it. Afford parking to go hiking?!? Personally, I think that's very bad. But look at Pokljuka... Visits have also increased exceptionally there and I have the feeling that they followed it or are trying to follow. Parking has been nicely arranged, expanded and charged at normal rates...Let the crowd be the reason why we don't go there often, not the parking price.

Dprapr, you gave an excellent idea for reducing crowds at the starts of mountain trails. We could be solidary to our dear guests from abroad. To reduce crowds at popular spots, we could start visiting those spots around mid-September, when parking fees would also be lower. Our esteemed guests from abroad would be thrilled by this gesture, and we'd save on parking. In short, a very cheap solution. And we could say the wolf is full, the goat is whole.
And we greens also welcome every reduction in the carbon burden on the environment!

If last time I made a comparison with Zermatt and Saas Fee, this time also with Großglockner Hochalpenstraße. In Switzerland parking fee, in Austria toll, something like that.
Blato = 20€, no WC, no inn, no garage, nothing. Only once a day you can drive up and down, every additional day is extra 20€, same if you drive out and want to drive up again the same day.
Großglockner Hochalpenstraße = 40€ (from 18h onwards there's a discount and it costs 30€), lots of inns and huts, viewpoints, covered garage at the top, shop, everything available. ATTENTION - with the daily ticket the road can be used multiple times a day. MULTIPLE times a day, drive up, drive down, drive up, drive down... And if you overnight in a hut or inn, you don't have to pay extra at the exit. Zero extra, not just if you stay one night, you can stay a week, two or more, NO extra.

The road to Blato is a one-time passage so that the sacred asphalt and pristine nature aren't destroyed too much
Because surely there would be enterprising people who would drive up "for half the price"
But is the toll concept familiar to you? Do you go to Italy or Croatia complaining too because the paid toll is only for one ride on one section?

If on the Municipality of Bohinj website you type "blato" in the search, it shows posts related to the road. The last post from Oct 26 is, "due to forecasted storm the road Voje - Vogar - Blato is closed indefinitely"
Hope they post this year again that the road is open .
On promet.bohinj.si it additionally says "During the winter season, when passage is not safe, the road is closed."

Bohinj chronicles continue. Compensation payable in the amount of 20€ from 1.1. to 31.12... EXCEPT ...in winter, when the road is closed under the pretext that it is not safe. Of course it is not safe if it is never plowed. The best is to plow it and let hikers slide there even in winter! Soon Bohinj winter from 1.9. - 1.6....
