Has anyone been to Kanjavec from Planina Blato over Hribarice in the last few days? What are the conditions like towards the summit regarding snow base and avalanche risk? I'm mainly interested up to where the road to Planina Blato is drivable?

Rudi and Jozl - "Trentarski Dolenjec". Is it really already 14 years? Time flies

Yes, 14 years and exactly such a nice sunny day as today when we picked them up, but one was taken away by helicopter, unfortunately too late. They were good guys, tough loss for Trenta and the families.

Which route to Kanjavec would be somehow the most suitable in snow conditions? Thanks for the answer.

In current conditions 3rd degree snow avalanche danger, which is still increasing, currently even crossing the last slope before Pl. Lipanco is not safe, many buried there in the past. Otherwise for ascent to Kanjavec in unfavorable avalanche conditions like now, no safe access from any direction really!. Through Triglav Lakes valley the whole tour is in high danger. Similarly from Pl. Laz already below Ogradov walls, further crossing below Debelim vrhom and finally below Kanjavec summit itself. Also from Veliko polje direction, if we get there safely at all, through Velska dolina very exposed, both from Mišeljska range and left Šmarjetna glava. Due to thaw besides new high snow in high mountains also dangerous releases of old southern snow in lower areas where it is raining now. Conditions for safe mountain visits will deteriorate until first serious coolings and snow transformation and stabilization in heights.

I realize this week will keep us away from similar peaks for quite a while, but I'm curious which route in winter is usually "standard". And at what height in Julijci is the snow line this week anyway?

In stable snow conditions safest ascent over Lazovski preval and along valley behind Debelim vrhom and over basin east of Vršaki. Here too good knowledge of terrain-karst sinks is needed. In fog this path is not recommended. Also over Veliko polje and Velska dolina nice to Kanjavec. Current conditions for mountain trips have worst combinations. First long dry period and sunny exposure where smooth frozen crust formed in mountains. On this base then rained quite high first, later fell southern heavy snow. Avalanches frequent and even where we won't expect them!.

But maybe someone knows what the conditions are like? I'd go up from Zadnjica valley.

I'd tackle Kanjavec from Velska dolina. How to get to Veliko polje easiest (fastest) in these conditions? Option without touring skis or snowshoes needed because of soft snow? Thanks in advance.

Today around six in the morning we set off from below planina v Lazu with "knap". A bit before planina extra gear needed - snowshoes, without which we'd have turned back, though even with them not easy. Sinking in places, not saying how deep.. Continued past Debelim vrh to Kanjavec. Summit in just over five hours. Morning weather not best, but closer to top better and sunnier. Met some alpinists on way /most Selčani/ . On top obligatory looong rest, photos... Descended to Vršaki, needed some caution there and no snowshoes of course, then past Zelnaric and Kopica to planina Dedno polje, then to planina Pri jezeru where met four more hillwalkers. From there to start, snowshoes off halfway or after 15 mins. Finally! As I told "knap", never had snowshoes on boots this long . Stress that alone I'd probably not find way, get lost, "knap" led whole tour confidently and taught about surrounding peaks. Interesting but tiring tour

Hello! My colleague and I plan to ascend Kanjavec next week (likely Monday). We'd go from planina Blato first to planina Jezero then along Kopica path to summit. Curious about conditions on this route (how much snow left, anything to know before ascent etc...). Thanks for replies and best regards. Mountainlover

Some really manage almost everything. Still: it's written as sedlo Čez Dol with a capital letter.

Did you maybe remove that bush at the start of the path over Komar? I tried to remove it but failed, maybe because I was alone :-)

I have no idea where it came from! Our attempt also failed, there is soil and rocks in between, I'll tackle it next time. Passage is not really obstructed.
