Kanjavec

We're heading to Kanjavec next week. I'm interested in the following. We'd do a loop to Prehodavci from Trenta. Is it better to go up from Zadnjica and back Čez Dol or vice versa. I'd like to know about shade and generally about the path, because we'd go first day afternoon to Prehodavci, second day onwards.
I like reading the forum, asking first time. Thanks in advance!

Oh! Yes, I prefer the path from Zadnjica to Prehodavci. In the morning this valley is especially beautiful and you have constant shade. Just before the saddle there's only a short scree field, but it's not long.
Enjoy!

Hi!

Has anyone recently gone to Kanjavec from Zadnjica past the hut at Dolič and can share fresh info on conditions? Is an ice axe still needed besides crampons?

Thanks in advance for the help and lots of mountain pleasures to all!

From Zadnjica to Dolič the path is mostly dry. Only the last slope before the hut has a bit of snow, but no need for crampons. The path to Kanjavec is also mostly dry. The hut at Dolič is open even though it's damaged - mainly because of people who don't care about foreign property. From Kanjavec towards Hribarice there's still some snow - for enjoyment, further on the path is dry.

Kanjavec conquered yesterday. With my "suffering buddy" Igor we parked in Krma. Started the tour at 4:45am at 1°C. Down in the forest it was dry, but soon patches of snow on the trail. Higher among the bushes we could already ski. Conditions for ski ascent were ideal all the way to the top on just frozen enough snow. At the top we shook hands, enjoyed the sunny weather and great views. Then we skied down to Hribarice and due to excellent snow wholeheartedly climbed up once more. Igor to the adjacent peak, me to the same one. Igor descended to Hribarice again, but I skied under the edge of the southeast ridge and stopped a bit above Hribarice pass, where long sunbathing followed, as Igor decided for another ascent to the SE ridge. Then came payment for long stay up there. Scorching sun did its thing, deep wet snow indeed. Unlike Igor, skiing in such snow is not much fun for me. When we finished the tour at the car at 2:45pm, it was really nice to take off the ski boots and cool the cooked feet.
All in all, we both rated the tour as very nice.
Best from under the beautiful Mozirje valley, Janez.

What are the conditions on the path Zadnjica-Kanjavec (via Dolič)-Prehodavci-Zadnjica?

If I understand you right, you want to do a loop from Zadnjica towards Luknja and then midway a branch to Dolič or Tržaška hut to Kanjavec and then over Prehodavci and Zadnjiški dol back to the valley? Last week I went from Zadnjica over Zadnjiški dol to Prehodavci. There were still some snow patches on the way but nothing serious, now probably even that has melted. There was a little (5cm) snow also at Zasavska hut (shame I don't know how to upload pics herezmedenvelik nasmeh). Towards Luknja up to 1750 no snow patches visible. From 2000 on it's a different story. How it is further to Kanjavec I don't know, but last week when I was vacationing in Zadnjica it was constantly cloudy, Sunday and Monday apparently snowed again up to 2300m. lp

spotonbody: Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I plan to do the loop if conditions allow.

I'm also heading back to Zadnjica tomorrow for the weekend right under the slopes of Kanjavec. But I'll probably just go to Zadnjiški ozebnik, which looks like a very nice tour too. I think huts are opening tomorrow too, at least Pogačnikov dom at Kriških podih. Check with the alpine association for the numbers of Zasavska hut (or Tržaška hut), which is regularly flown over by helicopter, maybe they'll have fresher info on how much snow is left on Kanjavec. LP, hope the tour succeeds, maybe we'll meet somewhere mežikanje

Does anyone know if there's still any snow on the trail from Dolič to Kanjavec and the descent to Zasavska koča?

From Dolič to Kanjavec there are dangerous snowfields so take an ice axe just in case. The path from Kanjavec to Prehodavci is full of snowfields (Hribarice) but passable without major problems. The only issue is that the snow sinks in places. Because of that I had extra water in my boots velik nasmeh.

Thanks for the reply, Kanjavec I'll leave for another time because of the wetness since I plan three days roaming the Triglav area.

With good and properly maintained boots you can nicely cross the mentioned snowfields without wetness. If you have "at hand" also gaiters then you have nothing to fear.mežikanje
In my opinion it would be a shame to skip this end for the mentioned reason, especially since the weather forecast (as it now shows) is very stable.
Some good spray on boots and no worry, feet will stay dry.
But there is still plenty of snow around Triglav too, so you would have to avoid that end as well.

Lots of enjoyment.

Don't miss such a nice weekend because of that as you can solve it with spray. You can also take gaiters (as Stefanb wrote).

Thanks to all for the info as you convinced me, so on 9.7. we did the ascent to the summit from Dolič and descent to Prehodavci. The ascent on the upper snow patch without ice axe is still a bit uncomfortable so we had them with us, on descent no sinking anymore.

We also did the same tour yesterday to Kopica on Kanjavec descent to 7 where to the hut there's no normal path all flooded (extremely high lakes) they made a bridge. Gorgeous day for roaming the mountains, no snow worry these days. Only Triglav was a bit wet.nasmehViews divine all the way to the sea and over the Alps to Austria...cool few visitors, mainly foreigners, lots of mountain animals...nasmeh
