Access to the starting point:
You arrive in Hungary via the Dolga Vas / Redics border crossing, then drive towards Szombathely / Mosonmagyarovar. Once in Szombathely, we will continue from there in the direction of Kőszeg. In the village of Lukácsháza you will see a signpost for the village of Velem (at the time of writing the sign was not very visible). Continue through the villages of Kőszegdoroslo and Kőszegszerdahely and you will arrive in the village of Velem.
There is a small parking lot in the village at the point where the paths to the summit start. As the summit is quite popular, the parking lot is often busy. In this case, park in the cemetery at the beginning of the village.
Path description:
From the starting point, continue forward and quickly reach the bus turnoff where the blue plus trail begins.
Continue to the right (red trail on the left), a few steps further along the asphalt, and then the trail leads you slightly downhill to a small stream, along which you continue for about 5 minutes. After leaving the stream, return to the tarmac road, and at the first bend you will reach the forest, where the path becomes steep and continues along the forest logging trail. The path continues past an interesting but unfortunately dilapidated house, and a little higher up the path turns left and becomes even steeper.
Further along the stone steps you reach the church of St. Vida Kapolna, which rises above the nearby villages.
There is some easy walking along a wider path which leads to a parking lot, and beyond the parking lot there is a gentle descent through a sparse forest. The path ahead begins to climb again and leads us through a dense spruce forest. There are a few serpentines and we climb up to a ridge where we reach a telecommunications facility, after which we continue along an asphalt road which descends gently. Soon we return to cart track, which leads to a ridge, after which we descend for about 100 vertical metres.
At a lower altitude, you will reach a crossroads where the red trail mentioned at the beginning and the trail from Bozsok will join.
The blue plus trail ends here, and you follow the red and blue markers, which lead you north-west past a feed station. Again, the ascent becomes steeper, and as you leave the forest you reach a resting place below the summit. From here it is just a few steps to the top, where there is a brick lookout point with views in all directions.
