NC Planica - Tičarjev dom na Vršiču

Access to the starting point:
From Kranjska Gora, drive towards the Rateče border crossing, but only to the point where the road to Planica and the Tamar Valley branches off to the left (at the village of Rateče). The road, which climbs moderately, soon leads to the large parking lot at the ski jumping hills in Planica. From here, continue along the dirt road towards the lodge in Tamar, which you will then follow to the parking lot located near the mountain lodge.
The road to the Tamar valley is now closed. This extends the journey by about 1 hour.

Path description:
From the parking lot, follow the road back two minutes towards Planica to the signs for Slemenovo Spica. Take the path which, after a few steps, leads you out of the forest and onto a large gravel area. The path climbs gently to the left to the source of the mighty ravine ahead. The path then leads us right into the ravine along which the path continues. Continue up the ravine, loking for the passages that are elsewhere after each heavi rain. The path along the ravine is marked but many of the markings are upside down and where there is a marking it is often almost impossible to cross. The entire 45 minutes or so of the gorge crossing is also exposed to falling rocks. The climb up the ravine is difficult but nowhere exposed. Exit the gully at saddle Grlo, where we join a barely visible unmarked trail from the Mala Pišnica valley.
Continue right in the direction of Slemenova špica and Vršiča. The path crosses a short lane of a forest and leads us slightly higher to the scree slopes, which the path crosses in a slight ascent to the steep slopes. Here the path climbs steeply and we are helped by a few wedges and a steel cable. Continue up the moderately overgrown slope quite steeply to where you join the Vršič - Slemenova špica trail.
Here continue left in the direction of Vršič (to the right Slemen's Spit) and follow a pleasant path through a sparse larch forest. The path then climbs slightly for a short time, and within a few minutes of further walking it leads to the Vratca Preval. Here we continue straight down (left unmarked path to Prednje Robičje, right Hanzo path to Mala Mojstrovka) on an initially quite steep path which slowly starts to turn to the right. A little lower, cross lane of dwarf pines, and the wide and well-trodden path quickly leads to the Vršič Pass. Here, continue right to a small house selling souvenirs, then continue left on a slightly narrower road, which takes a few steps up to Tičar's house.
