Toll booths on Vršič and in Vrata

When they cash in, the road is municipal; when winter maintenance is needed, it's state. velik nasmeh zavijanje z očmi

Regarding the topic itself, I think the toll for state roads is already settled with the annual vehicle registration. Which says like this: "Annual levy for the use of vehicles in road traffic (we used to call it road tax) is paid by road users for road motor vehicles and trailers." So, tolls should no longer be collected additionally. The other matter is parking lots. They are not mentioned as state property or that levies are paid for them at the state level. But there is a problem with excessive traffic in some area. But, a person is free and can decide for himself where, when and how to go anywhere. Of course, provided that some social norm and individual behavior is taken into account, which we have to honestly admit that people are becoming more and more rude and reckless, which doesn't belong in a more or less undisturbed society. If the municipality provides free or paid with some moderate amount parking and arranges decent transport to the target destination, then excessive traffic on individual sections can be limited. But before limiting traffic, a truly acceptable transport alternative must be arranged. It's normal for parking fee to last for 24 hours and not until midnight, when parking lasts several hours or up to 24 hours. That we are spoiled and would preferably drive to the bar with the vehicle, we also know. And walking was never a problem when traffic wasn't as busy as today and you had to walk quite a while from the bus stop to the goal even on flat ground, only then the real ascent to the mountains began.

The road over Vršič is overburdened in summer and there would be nothing wrong if a toll was charged for use (for cars and motorcycles), but not usurious, say 5€. Why should all tourists drive up for free? In Austria, high mountain roads are toll roads and not cheap. But the question is whether the funds would be used specifically for maintenance.....??

What connection does overload have with paying tolls? Would it be less then? If you go for tourism, you have to adapt the infrastructure. Tourism earns in other ways, not by charging parking, WC, tolls. In It and A you have roads and passes at much higher altitudes for free.

mirank, if you don't see the connection between overload and toll payment, every effort and explanation is pointless.....

Dars also collects tolls on the highway, yet it's still overloaded. To make you understand that is also a waste of effort, unless you're from a privileged municipality that collects money there and in Vrata, but it was built with money from all taxpayers. On Vršič, the jams were often caused by avoiding paying the illegal tax to the Gorenjska usurers. Consequently, some undisciplined people preferred to park on the other side by the road under the pass and thus hindered vehicle passage.

vstarc16: "The road will be open until the MAINTAINER assesses that it needs to be closed due to winter conditions," explained the mayor.

Hammond, maybe you know: it's possible with money (read: without permit) to Vrata. Everywhere there are signs: parking Vrata red X at ramp, sign passage for pedestrians only with permit. Possible or not until worsening of driving conditions

Given that

the road should be closed "due to winter conditions".

I just pointed out the difference in wording, which is obviously tailored to certain biased needs. The original promise was that the maintainer (probably the local utility company) would close the road as needed, but when that company was asked why the closure, the blame was shifted to the operator, i.e. the state. When it comes to collecting money, on a state road it's again done by the local actor, i.e. the municipality. Such nonsense usually arises when intentions are not as presented.

Hammond, I was replying to dragonar.

But thanks for the explanation, because I actually didn't fully understand your previous comment either.

Bravo, congrats, KG. The last days without snow, nice weather, no crowds in the mountains and barrier closed. You must be extra talented to pull that off.

We can expect that in spring, when it's time for ski touring. Barrier will be closed. mrk pogled

I remember times not so long ago, when KG mayor literally fought with TNP inspectors for open paths. One even flew off the path. Now they only care about collecting money.

Because of such actions of local sheriffs, Kranjska Gora and Bohinj won't see me soon.

They won't see me anymore in Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, nor in Ljubljana. Better at home from the couch spitting on local sheriffs and PZS, and it costs nothing.

Spitting doesn't help anything. You just go to the mountains where they are friendly and prices reasonable. Why get upset about mountains too? They can't spoil all the good things we experience in the mountains, no matter how hard they try. nasmeh
