In Jesenice there are still free parking spots for now, so welcome to our mountains

Even if there is the option of public P+R transports, they by no means solve all "problems". An experienced mountaineer who goes on a serious marked or pathless tour for example starting anywhere in the Vrata valley won't take the bus, minibus in summer season only at 5 am?!? To Vrata valley according to the current schedule it arrives at 05:50... For such tours you set off at night and walk part of them in the dark, because this way you avoid heat and weather anomalies in the afternoon. You also have some time reserve for any case. Lp

For the consideration of those planning the barrier and determining the time in which you will have to go from Trenta to Gorenjska or vice versa If you're too slow, it means you went for tourism, so you'll pay But if you drive from barrier to barrier faster than the experts calculate, the police will send you a ticket for speeding

To opponents of the barrier in Vrata - why let cars in when there's no more parking space? In the season it was already a couple of years ago like this, that if you arrived around 5am in Vrata, the last spots on the upper parking before the hut were filling up. With some extrapolation due to increasing crowds (projections apparently predict similar growth for coming years as the Dolomites saw in the last few years, if I'm not mistaken Belhar from GRS said on some podcast that they got these statistics on the table), sooner or later both parkings, upper and lower, will fill up just around the time when the first buses are supposed to arrive in the valley. I wouldn't fool myself that there won't be more crowds and worse, more than a few EUR today I'm worried what will happen to some of my favorite spots in 20 years.

There's nothing wrong with a barrier if it's actually meant to moderate traffic or prevent too much sheet metal. So free parking, or some moderate amount and that many cars go in. But unfortunately with us it's usually not like that. If we just look at Blato, the ramp there is exclusively so no one gets out for free. Cars go in as many as they want, even if there's no space long ago. Regarding the Dolomites, I can say things are exemplary arranged there. Parking is mostly free. There are as many parking spots as there are, if you have serious intent for a tour, you always get one. But I think there are too few for tourists who rush up at 10.

n3jc, with your favorite spots it will be in twenty years like it was with them twenty years ago. A bit changed, nature of course, and we, willy-nilly leave an invisible trace with every visit. Only time and space will be different and people and way of life. You will be different too. And if nature is still close to your heart, don't worry. If you want, you will find your favorite spots then too, probably different and elsewhere. I too twenty and more years ago had wishes and plans, my secret spots and places where I felt more at home than where I live. But time did its thing and wishes, plans and more changed and adapted and will continue until the end of my days. And same for me, no other way. Paid parkings up or down, same barriers and much more

Let those who would rush into Vrata at noon for a picnic and throw a glance at the Triglav wall pay... but for those of us who go hiking, a discount based on a selfie from the top.

Bravo, that with the selfie is really an excellent solution, nothing to say... Maracana Stadium (Rio de Janeiro) holds the record for number of visitors from 1950, when the World Cup soccer match between Brazil and Uruguay - according to sold tickets - was attended by 173,850, unofficially around 220,000, most of whom bought standing tickets. Today Maracana has 79,000 seats.

On the previous page: "Yes, let it be paid if parking on private land or an agreement with the municipality for parking is arranged. And even if the municipality owns the land. Who would we sue and complain to?" Private land is something else than the Kranjska Gora-Bovec road. For its use I pay every year when I register the car, compensation for road use or whatever it's called. A barrier on such roads simply doesn't belong, doesn't belong, has no business there.

@turbo: Exactly like that and period. No need to debate this further, barrier on a state road and some calculation of average time to drive it or pay...

But exactly that will happen, because no one tries to sober up those who pat each other on the back for the "great" idea. I would put a sign at the beginning of the road to Vršič that parking is prohibited everywhere not explicitly marked, then send a couple of wardens to hand out fines to all who don't comply. Maybe the fines would even be in Bohinj style, like 200 eur.

That's already in force at Vršič...in TNP parking is prohibited everywhere it's not allowed. But apparently it's easier and more profitable to fleece everyone indiscriminately than to deal with violators.

If on the pass, where there's asphalt, white lines marking parking were drawn, and where gravel, a big sign with P, that would be a start, and at the same time on the side towards Slemenova Špica and Mojstrovka, along the road edge stakes like in cities on sidewalks, so you can't park there even if you wanted. Money intended for the barrier, actually two, let them allocate for "electronics" that counts vehicles and for signs, one in Kranjska Gora at Jasna and another at the Soča source intersection, showing how many free spots at each parking. Just off the top: you drive to Jasna and it says: Russian Chapel 20 free spots, Koča na Gozdu 15, at the bend under military cemetery 10, Erjavčeva Koča 5, pass FULL. And you choose one of those parkings with fee, depending where you're headed. In Kranjska Gora they have a "wrecker" that can go up and load a wrongly parked car or one blocking traffic in less than half hour. If just wrongly parked, invoice suffices, of course high amount, since it's TNP. If we play carrot and stick, sensible to start with carrot, plenty of sticks left

I completely agree with you, Turbo. We can just send your post to the authorities, because it's a much better solution than Klinč's time attack barrier.

No barriers, they should organize parking lots and traffic will flow smoothly. If they want to attract guests to huts, inns, let them make an effort with the offer.

Best to put a barrier on the ridge and Mojstrovka. Many times on Vršič, at 5am no problems getting parking or at 6pm in the evening.

To not open a new topic, I'll "recycle" this one of mine. Whoever wants from Vršič to tackle surrounding "hillocks", hurry while there is still any parking. This year still as before, next year road reconstruction starts (partial and occasional full closures), spring 2026 number of parking reduced significantly. Barriers still in game, currently administrative procedures ongoing. In Vrata could drop already in good two months. More: https://n1info.si/novice/slovenija/na-vrsicu-ze-zdaj-kaos-kmalu-pa-bo-se-huje-ukinjajo-vecino-parkirnih-mest/ Purely out of curiosity interests me if similar chaos also on Predel.

"Whoever wants from Vršič to tackle surrounding "hillocks", hurry while there is still any parking." Young and those with more fitness also in future no problems. Will just start from valley. Where does this lead? To past, about this I tell you all time. And you say I still live in SFRJ.

When in the past did you have parking density and traffic on Vršič and Vrata comparable to today's at peaks?
