Hi, thinking about ascent to Kredarica this weekend. I don't have much experience, but I have ice axe and crampons and good will, so how dangerous is the ascent? Thanks in advance! Filip

That last one is surely meant as an April Fool's joke, although a bit early ... Hope so.

I agree, and expected such a response. I never go beyond my capabilities. I'll try an easier ascent, maybe Viševnik again ... I was there in January and thrilled! Recommendations welcome Thanks for info and regards F.

Regarding current conditions, the objective dangers on the Krma-Kredarica tour are no greater than the ascent to Viševnik. SamoK, Climber91 - is there anything special on the path in the last few days? Triglav is another story, but Filip111 asked about Kredarica.

Hi Filip The road from Radovna (Kurje vasi) is icy, you can drive to Kovinarska hut, but there are deep ruts in places. Conditions super, frozen in the morning, softens during the day, crampons highly recommended, no danger, track nicely laid. Descent report from Kredarica 17.3. Weekend will be nice

A bit for fun, a bit for real, but the road to Kovinarska is more dangerous than the ascent to Kredarica. Especially in the sense that you get stuck with the car or in a hole. There have been several such cases. At Kovinarska especially "oh shit", since it's practically impossible to turn the car if 3-4 cars are already parked.

I don't know about you, but if someone for a winter ascent says they have boots and crampons... it doesn't seem suitable for any winter activity to me. 1. crampons: what kind of crampons? 2. If you have crampons, take an ice axe too. No mention of an ice axe? I don't put on crampons without an ice axe in hand. Fitness? The path is longer than in summer, more strenuous. For someone who has only been to Viševnik in winter.. I don't know, maybe I'm thinking wrong anyway, I prefer to advise against such questions.

Thanks everyone for the answers and advice. Shoes are Nepal Cube Evo, Petzl automatic crampons. Besides Viševnik, I was also on Stol, and in summer I have visited more than 2000+ peaks. I wanted to ask here about the conditions, since I never underestimate the mountain, and I don't want to expose myself too much to dangers. I've concluded that Kredarica is a bit too much for me now, so I'll wait for summer, and until then I'll choose an easier trail. Good luck and thanks again everyone!

Climber91, you write as if they were written laws for summer and winter tires. What and when we really need depends on the individual point, at a certain time.

There are certain "laws", aren't there?? If I go to the gym for 1 week, I can't expect to lift 100kg after 5 visits. If I hike Šmarko for 1 month, will I go to Triglav? Ok, I have money, buy the best gear.. what if I don't know how to use it? If you're heading to 2000+ now, you have gear with you that you know how to use. Whether you'll use it or not.. you assess yourself then. To assess yourself, you need experience. Especially, I wouldn't advise a foreigner to climb somewhere he hasn't hiked in summer. I went to Špik once in winter.. ideal conditions, lots of visitors that winter. When I got above the tree line, no tracks, wind did its thing. Actually I plowed to the top. Sorry, certain rules apply here too. I'm also interested for some small hill if it's ok not to carry anything because sometimes I don't feel like it. Not for 2000+ in March. I sprinkle ashes on myself for even writing anything some of you are really sensitive to the moon. LP

Climber91, excellently said. One of the more dangerous features of "advice" on the web is that many people advise based on their own knowledge, but don't consider the knowledge and experience of the asker (or can't know it). I stick to the principle that it's not safe to answer someone asking whether to take one ice axe or two to the mountains (or similar), because with too encouraging an answer we can actually contribute to an accident. (If I go a bit further, I'd say most "advice" is either nonsensical or dangerous, since after a few sentences about the asker we really know nothing. So it would be better here to stick to descriptions and drop the advice.) (Not to mention that "advice" is often just for self-aggrandizement of the giver.)

What about advice on advice? Does that fall into the self-aggrandizement category too? You scared him so much he immediately dropped the idea of ascending. He could've nicely joined the column that winds up there on weekends along the easy track to Kredarica.

The path over Prag was nicely covered with snow yesterday, mostly hard and good to kick steps in. Access starts from Peričnik.
