Tirske Cliffs

TERSKE CLIFFS (noticed Tirske cliffs somewhere too?)
Every drive to Logarska, I admire the cliffs that are visible (Radmirje - Ljubno) - view towards Golte.
Steep cliffs drop into the forest and look very inaccessible. On the map I search and choose a circular path.
KIJ-TIRŠEK-MONUMENT AT STON-MOZIRSKA HUT-STARI STANI-PODLESNIK-KIJ
In the morning fog (from Letuš) I drive to Ljubno. 2.6 km from the center of Ljubno towards Smrekovec, the road forks to Kij (sign by the road). 3.5 km to the farm (Kij) where I leave the car (6:30). I look into the foggy valley and already hurry along the road. At the junction (signs) I already realize that I'll close the circular path here.
At Tiršek a flock of sheep awaits me (I go through the yard). Soon I spot sheer walls. The path leads much lower and to view them I need to make an effort (verrrry steep). I inspect the walls and descend back to the path. At 8:30 I am at the monument (Ston). I continue the path and at 9 I am already at the Alpine garden (Golte). I turn left to Stari stani - soon I wade into snow. I choose a ski slope and it holds me a bit so I don't sink too deep. The weather is super and I progress quickly. 9:40 at Stari stani. After a snack I sunbathe a bit and find the path to Ljubno. When I cross the Ročka ski area I already soon search for markings (which happens to me several times on the return). I descend the steep forest road (very muddy). At 11:10 I am at the Podlesnik farm. The friendly lady shows me the path over their pasture (left before the farm) and I descend to the road (no more markings). When I reach (by the stream) the road, I descend along it a few more minutes and at 11:26 I am again at the sign (pointer) - the path is looped.
At Kij I thank them for leaving the car in the yard and descend to the valley. Raduha is already in the clouds.
Nice circular path, intended for hikers who don't like rocks and chimneys. The best is the circle as I did it. It ascends slowly - the descent from the stani is steeper. There is no water shortage on the path. I notice that the path is not too trodden. I didn't meet any hiker on the path (except wildlife). I had a bit of trouble finding markings on the return from Stari stani - Podlesnik. The path is fully marked except Podlesnik - Kij. But here you are already practically at the goal.
WALK IT!!

Today I walked the path in the direction described by Geppo. To Mozirska koča it is nicely marked and following it despite the somewhat overgrown path is no problem. From Stari stanovi, however, it is different. First I crossed the plateau to the left and at the forest entrance spotted three new, shiny markings. Since I was already a bit late (morning lounging) I sighed in relief that there was no need to search for the path, but... After the forest entrance I chose the left, upper forest road, noticed one more faded marking, and that was all the way to Podlesnik. Basically I stuck to the left path all the time, except somewhere in the middle near the hunting stand, where I turned right and reached the gravel road. Along it about 150 m then under it, again left, a forest track branches off that after a while leads to the Podlesnik farm. Possibly I missed the other marked path that Geppo mentions, but for those who are a bit less attentive (like me), the way out of trouble is always left velik nasmeh. That the day was nice and the views wonderful is known nasmeh.

I too have been there where you describe several times in a dilemma. Somehow strangely "marked" there to Podlesnik.
But this year I found a nicely executed hunting path that takes you to Medvednjak. Up to where the hunters of LD Rečica have their hunting hut. So no need to walk that muddy forest track. That is the intended path up to there, when you reach the bend on the asphalt (a bit before the Alpine garden).

Thanks, I'll look for it next time. Is that path from Stari stanovi towards Medvednjak? Probably means you go back under the cliffs too. Otherwise the track was frozen today, so no mud problem.

I don't know that connection with Stari stanovi.
When I go from the monument onwards and before you reach that usual muddy track (marked), which brings you to the asphalt (bend) I take the track going left (maybe it leads to Stari stanovi too?) and follow it. It gradually loses the character of a track and turns into a path. In the forest then the start of the path is marked with two stones - right (which is very poorly visible here) after a few meters it becomes easy to follow. Then it takes you to the middle of Medvednjak.

The title should now be changed
TIRSKE PEČI
Now that I know it better I know it has the name after the last farm Tiršek.
Yesterday I tackled the path across the wall alone, but gave up in the section where everything was intertwined with fallen trees. In the snow I stumbled around fresh hoof prints and listened to roe deer barking a bit lower. Then I said to myself: in dry conditions I'll return.
Shortly after that I surprisingly run into a group of AO students putting on helmets.
I ask their leader and join them. The path is so wonderfully executed that I was surprised. Even at difficult spots well secured. Still needs caution and experience.
We exit the rock in the area they call (hope it's correct GAMSJI VRT). Already full of blooming primroses whose flowers peek out of the snow. At Golte I separate from the friendly group and thank their leader once more.
Back to the monument via hunting path and then along the track under the wall back to Tiršek.

Since we can't command the weather, we can only adapt to it. So for this morning I decide to revisit, lately much mentioned, Tirske peči. I drive to Negujnice, then along the marked path, past the paintball field for real men velik nasmeh, to Planina Ston and further to the partisan monument. There I turn left onto the path towards Tiršek and a bit before the farm, at the ruined cairn (probably hunters want their peace) steeply upwards. Of course the trail leads past the much photographed beech sculpture (which could have a place in many galleries) to the walls. Under the walls there's a nicely followable hunting path that ends at the monument on Ston. I didn't spot the entry to the secured path, and due to the weather didn't look for it specially. Then back to the car, where I happily take off the squelching hiking boots. It was another nice day, wrapped in mysterious mists, from which deer watched me several times nasmeh.

Nice greetings to all for whom the paths over Tirske peči are a challenge, relaxation or a place where you can throw your daily worries over the steep rocks... at least for the time while searching for suitable paths, as there are quite a few. Some almost invisible, others well trodden, the third, which was also a challenge for me, is equipped with a cable. The worm of curiosity started gnawing at me when my friend Marko asked if I knew about it? I had no idea, although I've already "crawled" over Tirske quite a few times and brought away some parts of a rusty stove, which I presume remained from NOB times???
Geppo, thanks. Besides my intuition, your photos were the only aid to find it already on the first try. Marko and I were thrilled with the path's execution. At the top we got as a reward a nice view of the eagle's nest and the nearby area with Kamnik-Savinja Alps in the background. Does anyone have info on what's with the eagle? It seems the nest is empty?! We continued the path to planina Golte, where from the top back we would never have found the path if we hadn't come from there. Super crossing! We descended via the hunting path in NW direction and halfway got lost and thus "rewarded" ourselves with an addition that demanded some scratches and scrapes, but they were forgotten when we finally reached the Tiršek farm where we had the car parked and at home over cold beer analyzed our successful exploration.
Tirske Peči belong to the landscape park established to protect the eagle. It chose a truly excellent strategic spot for its nest. But in its habitat it needs besides food also much peace, so I didn't describe the path we took with Marko, as I want Tirske Peči visited only by those whom the curiosity worm really gnaws too much to sleep peacefully. I think the hunters, most present in this area, will agree.
Warm greetings to all who are or will become lovers of this piece of wonderful nature.
Guardian of mountain nature Nataša!

Our exploration of Tirske peči went like this. First I left the bike at Ston pasture, found the path to a nicely interesting beech and of course to the walls. Evening time already signaled the need to cycle from Ston pasture home ASAP, so I left the continuation for the ascent over the walls for next time.
Yesterday afternoon we left the car below Ston pasture, couldn't miss the paths because loud music echoed from the pasture which we just followed. Under the walls we quickly found the entry, exited at Golte pastures and walked back on the hunter path. As predecessors said, exposed spots are secured, but not for those who like to walk only on paths marked with blazes.

On Tuesday after a long time after work again over Tirske peči. Path from Ston under peči well trodden.
Wild boars certainly not lacking, as Zadnja planina- Konjska loka heavily churned, worst around hunter observatory- interesting. Otherwise real pleasure.

Interesting is the thought about how close the Tersko area is to us and how little we know it. Fact is, the road to Tiršek was built only in 1979. Another fact is that the peči except hunters and some individuals were not visited and explored. For somewhat older history we could say that some knew the area well. Old stories and sun-burned peči lured me to this end: Bronac, Kašmanca, Travnatnica, Visoka peč, Smonk... Big problem for visitors is difficult terrain, which certainly is not suitable for everyone. But we must say that we also find some really easy paths for walks and recreation. Of course the mentioned path over peči belongs among demanding pathless areas, where besides fitness we must have proper other equipment. Like others I also ascertain that feelings in Ter are very strong and beautiful. Why? I think for two reasons: 1. to experience beauty one must make an effort 2. it is the ancient Terski ambiance that grabs us with its untouchedness. My path through Ter today I started at Konšak, continued uphill along the Gračanca stream, which has many springs, the northernmost reaches high into Terske peči and presents itself to us up there as the dry Miklavžev graben, which on the surface gives water only during prolonged and heavy rain. But the spring is constant, above the jump that we climbed in the lower part of the demanding path. I continue the path in the upper part, which runs through the passage in Štengah, which are part of the upper rock system Visoka peč. Along the Terski edge I continued the path to the top to the pastures. For descent today I chose pathless over the steep meadow of Travnatnica, which brings us down over Smonk to the mountain path Tiršek-Mozirska koča

Tirske cliffs/Golte/Alpine garden 4.5.2014
3.5.2014 cold, windy, rainy, evening
Then, a phone call asking if I will fulfill the promise given two years ago (hike over Tirske)? "I'll call back in half an hour", answer. Later, in a few minutes, we agree on details with the "beekeeper". In the windy and cloudy morning, we park at the penultimate bend under Bela peč. Follows a descent on the marked path, then a bit of my exploration (another variant..) and we are at the known beech. From the beech into the gully and only upwards. Through "Štengas", "Gams's garden", past blooming auricula. On the clearing, past hunter observatories, cold NE sweeps with us. Under the wall we were in friendly shelter. Already pulling clothes, hats, schnapps from "rucksacks". From "Žlajfarjeva" hut (chimney) smoke whirls merrily in wind gusts and we quickly slip into the warm shelter. Owner not in den but very friendly deputy. Friendly, as befits the mountains, served. On the table pile goodies from friends from NE Slovenia (bacon, spicy sausages, tuna meat......, keeper's chilies, goulash… what would I tempt you withnasmeh
After snack follows exploration cool of Janez's "courtyard". We find him, where else than at the bivouac, where he cheerfully debates with colleague in sun and no wind. Proposals, ideas fall and we already rush ridges and grassy ledges. Through window under Alpine garden then on rocky ridges up and down. For some already quite adrenaline..... Janez climbs tip at window, for swallow on its top I don't dare say.... but elegant in his climbing (honor each!!!). At moments, at some little man on rock tip astonishedzavijanje z očmi when he says: "Now down here"! Then nice hold, step found so all climb. After approx. six hours back at car.
Nice morning in pathless terrain, nature and pleasant company….

Tirske cliffs
On a nice sunny morning I ride the moped towards Ljubno. After approx. more than two years first time solo in pathless.
I stop at Bernard under Tirske cliffs. I drink morning coffee and ask them for some unknown variant of crossing from here over the cliffs. They explain roughly, because in detail it's not possible… plus lifeline (call on phone..cool).
I take rucksack and past cross into forest. Their bitch follows me and when I tease her back I make first mistake. I miss the right forest ledge and go on the lower one. Soon I notice the mistake and nevertheless continue, since I approximately know where it led me. But I will search there where I was supposed to return. The bitch follows me to the monument - Ston. When the steepness increases, she quits. I search hidden hunter tracks and succeed in finding one that should lead in the desired direction. I reach the hunter observatory which hunters are newly building, I am confused...zavijanje z očmi Bernard's wife spoke of ruined..
Behind the observatory a grassy slope that matches the description… The slope is so severe that I rather seek a rocky ridge above the abyss. When crawling under spruce branches I don't notice that I lost thermofleece. Slope turns into forest and soon I realize I am on the right track. When I take the camera from backpack at viewpoint, I miss thermofleecemrk pogled. I take just enough time to scout the terrain and find a traceable hunter path leading to Golte. Then back to search action. Luck, the lost item is soon foundnasmeh.
I return to the homestead on a hidden hunter path that is nicely executed under the entire cliffs. Autumn colors already show. On the way noticed some chanterelles and many other mushrooms not quite known to me.

Nice weather lured Milan and me yesterday to Tirske peči. We parked on Planinska raven. During enjoyable plodding through deep snow under Tirske peči we saw quite a few chamois. In the climbing part more snow would be useful, otherwise it's fine. Pegs are sticking out of the ice. Cables are mostly visible too. Of course after the announced snowfall everything will be different. Over Konjski vrh, Starih stanov and one of the ridges under Okencem we returned back to the car. Beautiful 4-hour tour with everything the heart desires.cool

Tirske peči/Trije ploti/Javorca/Window under Alpine garden/Mesarska lopa /25.4.2015
When Jasna and I talked about Tirske on Nanos three weeks ago I didn't imagine the hike realization so soon. Today we caught nice sunny morning and did the agreed tour. Janez and Milan show hikers "novelties" on the way..., they never run out of themvelik nasmeh. Started at 8 under Bela peč. Forest ledge to Ston quite muddy. No specials in Tirske and at 10:40 at Treh plotih. Short break, snack and descend to hotel. On ski slopes still snow patches.
Along Severjeva to Javorca to bivouac (12:00). We take some time to show hikers the surroundings. Descend past rock outcrops to traverse leading to Mozirska koča. Next goal window under Alpine garden. Janez as usual climbs the tip and photos participants from above (we him from below)cool. Through window descend to Mesarska lopa and traverse to parked cars (13:30).
Maximally used Saturday morning ended in Šmihel. Satisfied were we leaders and the led ones.cool

Yesterday morning due to health problems I was still in bed hesitating whether to go hiking or not. Milan and Zlatko didn't even dare call me because they know how hard it is in such a situation. When I looked out the window towards the Golte illuminated by the rising sun, the decision was clear. Despite the risk, I'm going. I call Milan to see if I'm not too late. He tells me I have less than half an hour to prepare. Soon he's already in the yard and we drive up. We park under Bela peč and soon the others arrive. Follows a heartfelt reunion.
