Yes, it's really a pity they don't open earlier. This weekend on Saturday there were tons of hikers at the hut who would surely use the services if it was open. In autumn there will be whining again about how bad the season was.

Friday 26.06 to Stol. Up Žirovniška, down Zabreška path. Started quite late, parking before Valvasor full. Not many views as mists and clouds up and down. At Stol summit full wind and then all closed. Some people on top, many Austrians. Real pity no views, must repeat tour from other start.

On Saturday we revisited the highest peak of Karavanke - Stol. From Medvedji dol via climbing route to the summit, through screes to Celovška koča and back to starting point. Conditions excellent, protections OK. Almost like years ago... https://gorskimoz.wordpress.com/2017/08/14/stol-po-plezalni/

Please reply. Is Stol via Žirovniška and Zabreška suitable for a hiker afraid of heights? So I don't like climbing, I like hiking in mountains, physically well-prepared, only vertigo bothers me. I was e.g. on Vrtača, Oljševa, Viševnik. Those were no problem as long as I have ground under my feet and no side traverses with drops. But Stol has been pulling me for a long time.

Yes, it is, completely on par with the mentioned ones, nowhere precipitous (except at the very summit on the S side, similar to Viševnik).

On the Žirovniška path there is one short exposed part, which shouldn't be serious trouble. Usual descent via Zabreška. Go bravely nasmeh

Hi! Does anyone know if the road to Valvasorjev dom is passable? Thanks

No, cca 1km below the summit you can get there.. we went from the lake because there's a sign below that the road is officially closed.

Today I was on Stol. By car almost to the hut / cca 15 min walk to Valvasorjev dom. Snow starts a good half-hour walk from the hut. Since it was icy (in the morning), crampons were soon on feet. Above tree line some new snow, track made. Lots of snow, in places hard and frozen, winter gear essential. Quite a few hikers behind me.
