I was on Stol on 6.2. and it was a great day. Met surely 20 people...some also with crampons...Went from Završnica, past Valvasorjev dom and on along Žirovniška pot. Above the pasture snow started, morning still powder snow...on return already all wet and muddy. From ruševje onward old, hard and on path sections to Prešernova koča also icy snow, which later nicely softened in the sun.

A huge number this winter of people in mountains and all post on FB where they were, etc...But is it so hard to also write a few words here about current conditions, which for someone without a mountain view through the window are very handy when deciding where to go...if I had the right info how little snow there is on Stol...I'd much prefer something in Julians.

That all post on FB you think (some don't even have it). If you'd read a couple of posts back, aware that conditions don't change fast because weather is stable, it'd be clear to you how the situation is.

Years ago someone told me that if you don't have FB, you don't remain. I still don't have it and exist.

On Thursday with my partner, after Sunday's Storžič, enjoyed beautiful views on Stol. Quite a few hikers made it to the saddle, only one couple further to the top. Ascent from saddle to top without using big crampons would be very irresponsible. Locally new snow blown onto icy base requiring extra caution.
On the way back some training in stopping with ice axe. Can come in handy.
We returned via Žirovska path. Icy sections on both paths below snow line. Good idea are microspikes.

Too dangerous. I suggest Blegoš, Kališče, Kofce.

Early morning to the top. To Prižnica mix of snow and already bare sections. Winter gear not needed. From here on of course crampons on and ice axe in hand. Went on tracks of predecessors who cut it right through the pines. As fast as possible zipped between both Stols, snow perfect for ascent and later descent. Some light drifting at saddle, on top poetry. Descent to Prižnica with winter gear of course, no issues, snow perfect, from there some southern snow, bit of mud, some already dry like summer. According to forecast you have 2 more perfect days for Stol visit. Met no one. Not even the virus. Those who want to comment Covid19 write to ZS.

Horse path to Prešeren hut is proven dry. Just below Stol summit short but hard and steep snowfield without tracks. Also below Vajnež still quite some snowfields.

Stol 1.5.2020
Path to Valvasor without issues. To the top I somehow hit a window without rain, as says the only one who made it to the top. Went via Zabreška as somehow best due to snow. Last 200m below hut snowfields. Snow rotten so didn't put on winter gear. From hut to top snow, again rotten so approached without problem. Fog and wind on top, visibility mostly 10m.
Glad finally a bit higher again.

Individual snow patches still there, mainly below summit, but nothing worth mentioning. And otherwise the path is trampled "highway". Well, judge from the picture yourself.

Zabreška is completely dry, snow patches below the summit are not problematic, if there's still snow somewhere lower on Žirovniški, I don't know.
