Zamet, what were the temperatures in the bivouac? What did you have to sleep in?

Polh, surprisingly when I opened it it was nicely warm, don't know the temperature because I forgot my watch at home. But I was in a normal sleeping bag and it was just right, bivouac bag would have been too little.

Jezersko and via ferrata to Češka hut. Continued to Mlinarsko sedlo, Dolgi hrbet, Štruca, Skuta. To Kranjska Rinka (via SE ridge) then also to Štajerska Rinka and Križ, where we descended (upper part small rockfall!). Past Ledine and žrelo to valley. Nice day, logbooks missing in boxes, sometimes you need to watch poor markings, here and there a loose peg worth with cable. Weather ok, bit of wind, otherwise super day.

Yesterday we went past Češka hut, over Mlinarsko sedlo and Dolgi hrbet to Skuta. Up to Mlinarsko sedlo the path is normally passable, though quite some snow. From there to Skuta the snow on rocks is quite annoying and great caution is needed. From Skuta we descended towards Bivouac as we planned to Koroška Rinka - don't recommend this descent. Lots of windblown snow (up to 30cm in places), sinks a lot, rocks slippery... only help are the pegs. Ice axe wasn't helpful either.
Because of snow, light snowflakes and dense fog we then went over Turski žleb (quite some snow here but no problem) and then up to Savinjsko and Jezersko sedlo. We also went to Babe and over Jenkova planina back to Jezersko.

Yesterday from Konec past Kogl over Gamsov skret and off-trail further under Štruca and over Velike pode under Dolgi hrbet, then on path to Skuta. From there to Mlinarsko sedlo and along ridge to Grintovec and further over Kokrsko sedlo to Konec.

In hard morning darkness I was led astray in the forest by some shortcut around fallen trees, which after several steep wet earthen steps brought me right into Mali hudi graben under Trata. I climbed the gully until I hit the path again. Don't recommend, better to push through those trees... The jump in Gamsov skret was wet and slippery, but has (probably from this year or last) new cable, well tensioned and gives reliable support. Above the jump steep grass well trodden with big and fairly safe but yesterday morning muddy and slippery steps. There I met a herd of ibex, who to my great joy let themselves be photographed calmly for a while. Then the Boss obviously got fed up and kicked a handball-sized rock that flew through the air and I barely dodged it. But I got the message and put away the camera, after which we parted in peace nasmeh

Rare snow patches no obstacle, above 2400m snow was still slightly hard in the morning but nicely sank to the ankle. Later it was soggy everywhere so wetness in boots accompanied me to the end. Crampons not needed anywhere, nor ice axe. But these conditions will obviously change in a day or two according to forecast.

Didn't meet anyone on Skuta (no logbook at top), on Grintovec 6 visitors signed in, two of them I spotted from afar at Mlinarsko sedlo.

Weather on Skuta wonderful, warm, only Grintovec and Kočna wrapped in usual fog in afternoon.

The chains were replaced last year. That trap with the bypass led me exactly one year ago to very unpleasant terrain too. When I got fed up, I went off the gully between low spruces.
Result was full pants of spruce needles. rolling eyes

Today on Skuta past the bivouac under Grintovec. To Veliki podi you cross a few snowfields, which don't pose major problems. Crampons and ice axe mandatory from podi all the way to the top.

Yesterday, 10.12., in great weather conditions I started via Žmavčarje to the bivouac under Skuta and on to the top. Snow was hard at the entry to Skuta and all the way to the top. I descended behind Štruca to the Podi and past the bivouac to the junction towards the long walls over which I climbed to Grintovec too. Snow in the gully was just a trace and quite mushy. I descended past the hut to the valley.

Skuta today: from Suhadolnik, past Bivak Pavleta Kemperleta and along the path over the slab at the end of Dolgega hrbeta, then to Štruca and then to Skuta summit and back.

Conditions at first glance don't look wintry, but at the upper edge of the Podi snow starts and is hard, gear mandatory. Key part (slab at end of Dolgega hrbeta) is quite snowy, snow very hard in the morning. Predecessors made quite big and comfy steps in probably unfrozen snow then, so one ice axe enough, otherwise two would make sense. After twelve snow softens a bit, but only 2-3 cm deep.

Slight descent from Štruca slope to Skuta, where path is filled with slush and only two pegs visible, I bypassed over Štruca ridge (and jumped to the top too), looks like predecessors from a few days ago did the same.

From morning to evening I didn't meet a soul, not even on Grintovcu (doesn't mean no one climbed it). Views were heavenly, in Kamniška Bistrica frost in fog area nicely visible. Seems more snow here than on Grintovcu, where only last 200m snowy. Maybe due to terrain configuration...

At first glance from Malih vratc it looks like summer.1
Bivouac Pavleta Kemperleta, erected in 2009, seems quite functional to me.2
Chamois are everywhere.3
In the chimney about 2/3 goes on snow, one third scraping on rock with crampons.4
On the summit it's winter though.5
Only from the other side is it visible how the path past Štruc is covered in snow.6
The view from the top is really kitschy.7
It seems Brana, Planjava and Ojstrica don't have so much snow.8
Somewhat transformed and technologically enhanced ice axe as excellent selfie aid...9
Practical consequences of inversion: in Kamniška Bistrica everything is frozen. Brrrr...10
Today is winter solstice - start of winter, the day was 8:34 hours long. Good night!11

On Wednesday my buddy and I managed to reach Skuta summit. We went from Suhadolnik past Cojzova hut and Pavle Kemperle bivouac. No snow to the Veliki podi, there continuously to the top, except last few meters in the wall between Dolgi hrbet and Štruca, where a bit uncomfortable scrambling with crampons on rocks. Right there very strong wind started. We also went over Štruca summit to Skuta. Where it went without major issues, only problematic strong north wind, especially in the saddle between Štruca and Skuta. Snow itself very stable and hard, so ice axes and crampons bite well. All winter gear and two ice axes mandatory.

Already from the bivouac it was visible that it must be very windy at the summit.4

In Gamsov skret snow starts in the gully under Koglom, but during the day it gets really mushy and breaks through, gaiters recommended. Via Žmavčarje probably similar, snow probably starts on that long scree under the bivouac. Up on the Podi less snow, just enough to get soaked, Skuta summit dome generally dry but due to recently passed winter even more loose than in summer, so caution. Best regards

02.04.17 Skuta-Dolgi Hrbet-Kalška gora. Lunatixz, snow to the bivouac was still hard at eight o'clock. Conditions on Skuta excellent. From eleven onwards completely cleared and hot. Past the Pavle Kamperle bivouac to Cojzova. Towards Kalška gora great snow, on the ridge already dry. Return over Kalce.

After yesterday's Begunjščica, today I headed out in good company on a circular tour. We started in Konc over Žmavčarje to the bivouac under Skuta, where we put on crampons just before the bivouac, well frozen. Short stop at the bivouac, then on to Skuta. Conditions good all the way to the summit, for descent towards Veliki Podi and bivouac under Grintovec, and to Cojzova koča and down the valley. Weather only spoiled by wind at times, around 11 high cloudiness.
