On 29.7. I did the route from Vrata. Started at 5:15 and returned at 17:45, hardly any people on the path and no peculiarities. The tour is strenuous and for average hiker 6h to the top with a break is realistic time. Summit is only half the tour, descent due to fatigue requires extra caution and can easily drag on. Two spots with cables are short but dangerous, there I'd feel better with SVK. Partly cloudy, but still used 3l water (65 kg) and returned slightly sunburnt despite protection. Better to overnight nearby and start earlier, at 11am around summit all in clouds. Otherwise very nice tour and definitely worth the effort.

Everyone was a beginner once, Kuzma, and time-wise you have nothing to blame yourself for. PZS also lists 6h schedule. Some go to mountains 2-3 times a year and times on signs are for them, others constantly go up 'hanging' Mileage does its thing, so it's understandable that some find it funny when they start in middle of night, for crossing six meters of snow carry gaiters, for two cables on tour self-belay kit and mandatory selfie at every peg. Once you surpass all that with years, you realize you could be at Škrlatica summit earlier than in 2h 40min, of course without the above mentioned gear. Luckily we're different, so everyone acts according to their expectations, wishes and abilities. And lots of luck and satisfaction in visiting mountains I wish you. https://www.hribi.net/trenutnerazmere.asp?slo=1&gorovjeid=1&id=8719&stran=1

Škrlatica 22-8-2020 On Saturday morning four hikers set off from Vrata towards Škrlatica. Now the barrier is open, so some can park near Aljažev dom. Apparently because no bus from Vrata, some say total chaos as they can't agree whose land is where. The path is well marked and we slowly progressed past bivouac 4 then over scree to wall entry. In the wall sometimes had to wait as many visitors. Some have self-protection, but doesn't help much, not many cables to clip. After first part turned left to ridge, less exposed and slowly to top. At top preferred to move aside from cross, snacked, rested, chatted, sunned and laughed at some "artists" posing for photos. Also don't understand grumpy people who lie right under cross next to logbook and complain others disturb their photography. Isn't there enough space 20m ahead? Or what? Descended same way, then full throttle over scree towards home. To Aljažev dom. For cold beer. But that can be a problem too, probably such a rush they can't handle everything?

Hi! Has anyone been to Škrlatica these days after the last snow? What are the conditions, is there still any snow on top, especially on that last hard part?

Under "Mangart" topic I was asked for conditions on Škrlatica. To every question decency demands an answer, here it is. Those capable of such approach will do it without cluttering hribi.net website. Stay friends, whatever tour you'll do!

When you start asking like this it means it's better to end high mountain season this year. Agree with Janez. Common sense of one who goes to such height and checks weather would know snow probably gone by Saturday. Almost better check weather info and ask about sun strength to melt those patches. Good luck

The biggest irony is that the one lecturing others is the guy who was rescued by GRS twice already (?) due to overestimating his abilities, lack of terrain knowledge and too high ego. @Veronika: Most likely on Saturday there'll still be some patch of rotten snow in a gully/couloir on the secured part, but the upper south ridge will be clean for sure due to today's sun and fairly high temps (if not already). For someone with lots of mileage behind and some winter ascents among others, it won't be a problem. If in doubt, maybe rather suggest Bovški Gamsovec via Luknja / Stenar via Sovatna or similar (up to ca 2,400m a.s.l. and upper part facing south). Good luck and stay safe!

There is little snow. Some patches that were melting already this morning. By tomorrow they'll surely be much smaller or gone. Wet stones are more annoying, which then get slippery. There are "abandoned" poles under the last wall, colorful crocs and a bag with some stuff. Looks like it's been there a few days. Hope someone forgot it, wasn't anything else. Regards
