Those times you wrote are real? Seems to me you had to really hurry to make it in such short time.zadrega

Bojan A: Not that I'd dispute your times, but according to the guidebook (ascent only ca 6-7 hrs) you "sped up" considerably or misstated?? I specifically took ca 6 hrs up and good 4 hrs down. Was tired like a horse. What about you?nasmeh

I'll add something too. I completely believe Bojan regarding the times. After all, he qualified for the youth national team in mountain running and will represent us at the world championship in Switzerland. Anyway, I also hike a lot in the mountains, I'm in very good shape too, and usually I can subtract about half from the times written in the guidebooks. And I don't even feel like I'm rushing. nasmeh

I wasn't disputing what he wrote. But the "average" times in the guidebook are only realistic for most of us average guys. And when someone posts a comment (article), they should just write that for him as a mountain runner it wasn't a problem to go up and down in that time. So there won't be doubts about anything else!!nasmeh

Yeah, maybe I wrote it awkwardly, I didn't mean to be offensive at all. But I agree, it's good to note next to such crazy times that you're an athlete or mountain runner.

I got the times by taking photos at all intermediate points. Then at home I checked when the photos were taken. This way the times are completely accurate. Actually, I was even slow by my standards. I expected to hike for 2.5 hours. But I lingered too much with photographing, and had some orientation issues. Anyway, I enjoyed the mountains. I wasn't in a big hurry. Plenty of time for crazy trainings.

OK thanks for the advice: I'll add that normal walking is about 12 hours.

But I wasn't tired at all from normal walking. First I thought of driving to Završnica and quickly going to Stol. In the end I decided it's better to do a fast flat running training.

Hey, since we're on it. As said I'm preparing for the world championship in mountain running. I'd like to do a two-day tour in the mountains for "natural altitude doping".

Can you suggest some smart two-day high alpine variant. Nice if in 2 days at least 3 km elevation gain.

Thinking of going to Triglav again and covering the whole group in 2 days: Rjavina, Cmir, Begunjski vrh, Vrbanova špica,.. anything else?

So any interesting suggestion where to go?

Thanks and LP, Bojan

With my partner we've been studying for a while to go to Škrlatica. We're wondering if we need a via ferrata kit and helmets? What's the path like? Very exposed?
Thanks for answers...

There are more paths, study which one you'd take, suggest checking the map Julijske Alpe - eastern, and get a guidebook. Such material is like proper shoes, mandatory gear for mountains. Websites are just additional help, not the base.

Nataša: path to Škrlatica is very strenuous and demanding from any side. Protections are well placed, but you need some experience on secured climbing paths. If you and your boyfriend have gone through Žrelo to Storžič and via Hanzova to Mala Mojstrovka, and have good fitness, no issues. Otherwise better train a couple more weekends.

Although I don't plan to go to Škrlatica, I'm chiming in regarding guidebooks that Mr. triglavski always recommends. I'm used to stocking them regularly, even have some of my own, but I notice that the data in them is already outdated or even wrong, for example the last trip was over Presedljaj and over Konj (I know it's Kamniške Alpe), where in the guide "50 secured climbing paths" it says: 75 pegs, 50 meters of cables, I disagree with this data, as there were only a few pegs, and I could add some discrepancies with the data in this guide (e.g. Storžič via Žrelo). In short, the guidebooks are outdated, although it's 12 years since publication, the current state on these paths is a bit different. And so I came to the conclusion that these guidebooks don't give (of course I don't mean all) objective and realistic data on the current state.

Thanks all for answers. We've been hiking mountains for quite a while, not exposed ones but still. Already been to Razor, Prisank (southern slopes), more demanding left: Jalovec, Mangart, Škrlatica,...

Then you won't have trouble with Škrlatica either. Repeat my tour. Of course good physical fitness is required.

jprim, I suggest you complain to the guidebook author and have him correct it as soon as possible or have them install those missing pegs and fixed ropes right away so it matches the guidebook. I also mentioned maps that need to be checked. This is practically the basics, even internet descriptions aren't all very realistic, some are really poor and you shouldn't rely on them too much. Back when there was no internet, a good photo of the mountain with the route drawn on it was enough, and that's how they climbed many of the world's highest peaks, so no devil that someone couldn't make it to Škrlatica too. And if it still doesn't go further, you can always turn back, I've done it too sometimes and at the right time.

"Complain" I really don't intend to, and again a bit of sarcasm, which is already typical for you. I'm just forming my own opinion about hiking tours, getting to know our beautiful mountains and of course the characters of this forum's visitors.
Best regards!

Depending on how you take it, regarding sarcasm. I get to know the mountains by visiting them as often as possible, today for example it was already my 95th day in the mountains this year and 6th day this week (M. Volaia), I often have to go up there when others need help, I've seen too many very tragic events that happened precisely because of ignorance, inexperience, lack of knowledge, inappropriate mountaineering gear and other really banal reasons. I think warnings are never enough, especially here where there are quite a few complete beginners, at least judging by the questions they ask I can conclude that they don't know much about mountains, maybe just the mountain's name, after that it's more or less dark.

Here I completely agree with you, but at least a bit more patience with us beginners, although I'm no longer a beginner myself, even though I've been visiting mountains for a year, I've gained quite some experience in that time. In this time my husband and I have summited 26 two-thousanders and of course quite a few lower ones that we summited in winter conditions. I don't collect stamps, but get to know wonderful mountains, as they say strengthen body and soul.
We already know the Karavanke and Kamnik Alps quite well, because if we're not in the mountains every weekend (whether objective or subjective reasons) we miss something. This year we planned the Julian Alps for vacation, but due to weather it didn't work out. Sometimes we abandon the planned goal and return another time.
I take every ascent with a great deal of responsibility and respect for the mountain, and try to be careful at every step ... but you never know ...
I meet wonderful people, like to talk with them, ask more experienced for advice and opinion, get to know flora and fauna. I never thought I'd get to know a viper closer. I could go on, but this isn't the right place, I just want to tell you that not all of us are the same.
Have a nice rest of the day.

You say you're not a beginner in mountains but you've been going only about a year. I've been going for 25 years actively, last year for example I was in mountains 175 days, just to Triglav I've ascended 331 times so far, mostly solo, often in winter, not counting other mountains in Italy, Austria and Corsica. I'm still learning. Just today I came from Jalovec, tomorrow going to Triglav again. Of course I'm patient with serious things, never with stupidity.
