" Up to about 20 years ago almost no one used a helmet when moving on equipped mountain trails, let alone SVK." Some still don't use it now (SVK).

On our demanding secured SVK trails I haven't used it yet (not counting ferratas here), and I've already walked most of them. And survived without bruises I use a helmet where necessary, i.e. where I know something might hit my head or where there's a chance I might accidentally bump into something myself

Julius, those quotes there aren't just like that. A Czech isn't the same as "czech" you get it, right? Comparing the path to Triglav (with Bosnians or without) in 1960, 1980 or 2000 with the path to Triglav today (say July, August and September) is pointless - and for less experienced I can even say unhealthy. Because it's not about courage, experience or the like, but about common sense. There are many, many, many more hikers with experience from "0 to 100". Today people move in hills and mountains for whom you don't know how they don't trip or kill themselves on flat ground. There are also countless chamois and ibex who don't care if there's a Czech or "Grošelj" below, they'll trigger rocks and stones (in)voluntarily. It's entirely your decision whether you put a helmet on your head and SVK around your waist. I always have it on for very crowded secured paths (especially on Triglav), as I've seen a lot there. Including panic attacks of fear and more. I won't even write about mandatory helmet on head. I don't know you and don't know what and how, but I always buckle up in the car with seatbelt (dad didn't for a long time because it "wasn't necessary") and when I go biking, I put on a helmet (as a kid I didn't, since I didn't think about it, nor were there any). For myself and at the same time not for myself, if you get me. Whoever has a helmet in the mountains and/or moves on "easy" sections with SVK aid looks quite smart and responsible - towards oneself and others. How it looks to you and how it was back then is pointless.

If you acted "smart and responsibly", you wouldn't go to Triglav at peak time at all.

Eh... no point. Don't forget where the best usually fall. Good luck

I think the same. You shouldn't "save" on equipment, since safety comes first. My self-belaying kit is also made in China.

Cars decades ago also didn't have ABS, airbags, headrests. Since I drive safely and carefully, I don't need these safety aids. And since I'm so insanely good and experienced with a million kilometers even on the most messed up roads, nothing can happen to me, let alone a mistake…
