Rombon via Čuklo, along the right fork of the gully to the ridge, somehow knew the left one has a cave. On the ridge tough conditions due to visible holes, fell right into a bigger one also on the ascent with 5-10cm new snow (knew it would happen) and sank to the knees a couple of times. At the top no view all the better, snow stayed more compact so didn't fall into another hole. Descended following my tracks and into the left fork where I saw the cave, bypassed it and crossed over. Then quickly down through 5-10cm and even more new snow.

A bit of snow only left in the gully before the ridge. About 10 steps crossing on snow, which is (at least was on Friday) already quite soft.

If I think of the right gully, you only have to go through it via Goričica, on the path from Kluže you avoid it. Or did you mean another one?

Everything happens once for the first timenasmeh. Yesterday it was ascent to Rombon, which surprised with beauty of path, summit, and great views around. Already last time after visiting Prestreljenik we were tempted to return to these parts.
But it all started a bit uncertain again, as the gondola at seven except workers didn't take others. Due to wind. And even for eight o'clock it wasn't sure they'd start it. But they did, so our journey could begin. Long path, but to me not too much, not too long. Beautiful views along the way, looking for familiar from others' descriptions, flowers, below summit a flock of white-headed eagles circling above us. To this sight you can only bow and thank. Return via Čukla to Bovec.

Yesterday six visitors at top, all via this path from Kanin. We met on the path, sat together at summit and arrived at parking before gondola at same time. Around seven in evening.
Oh how the cold beer at parking in the snack bar tasted good, as drinks were almost running out on path. We were very sparing with it, as yesterday hot day, but luckily wind eased heat on ascent, first water you can refill at trough in Zavrzelno.
Looking forward with joy to next summit visit in these parts, but don't know the name yetnasmeh.

On Saturday, 29.09.23, first time on Rombon. Mighty mountain that had called me for a long time. Start at Fort Kluže and first steps special, walking through lit tunnel. Then Fort Hermann, along path many remains of Soča front. Path for body and soul. Since I was quite late at top and didn't feel good about return to Zavrzelno, afraid darkness catches me, then hitchhike to Kluže waiting, returned same way. Got a bit lost midway, so to top 5 hours, return 3.5 hours. Wonderful.

Started in shorts and t-shirt up to Čukla, where I changed. Snow started below Čukla. Equipped, continued towards Rombon. Some places no snow, so occasionally collapsed to waist. Gully wasn't hard, rest spot at top of gully visible and no problem. Rombon ridge 3/4 without snow, to top used crampons and both ice axes. Avoided as much snow as possible, because it would collapse anyway. Descent by approach direction, so not to discover some new hole. And right below Čukla back.

(14.4.2024). We two lone hikers in the snow. Actually, the first part from Kluž through the forest was bare. Snow starts before the military forts. Met an adder twice. Both sunning on the path. Maksi avoided both and watched from a distance. First combative like on the front. But we wanted nothing from it. Second retreated slowly and nicely. From forts onwards, more on the right side. On the left where the path goes, lots of snow and now holes. Avoided snow patches as much as possible. Below summit got to path, short bare part. Then to summit not far. Up there lots of snow. Rested below summit on bare rocks, watched bearded vultures' flight. They circled us for a long time. Descended mostly on grass, snow only where no choice. On descent met adder again on path. Path from Kluž cleared, trees sawn.

I think you met not an adder, but a nose-horned viper. On the first pic, it seems I see a little horn on top of the head. On the second, when returning, the pic shows a reddish
tail tip. That's characteristic for the nose-horned viper. In the years hiking hills, I've met both myself. The adder seems shyer, quickly retreats if I meet it, the nose-horned viper slower or not at all. Always raises its head like on your pic.

Thanks pikica1 and sandra. First surprised how long and slow. But that it lives so high didn't add up. Even as we went further, still there in that pose, petrified. Little horn visible on it too.

(29.8.2024) On military paths from Zavrzelno. This time on once undiscovered path from over a hundred years ago. Mule track part still visible. Tour was fitness and orientation demanding. 1650 elev gain and 13 km walk. Where descended over little Rombon or unnamed peak, where there was once a path, still usable chain. Lower part bolt pulled out but after years still there, handy on descent. On summit no one visible. Weather without precipitation held. Heard thunder around Triglav when on top. Also some raindrops accompanied descent. Despite navigation towards Čukla, searched for passages for a while. Path was about 100 m below us. Decided for direct descent down steep grass. Took more time here, had to step carefully. In the end 12 hours walking including breaks. But if used to such paths, nothing special. nasmeh

Morning start in Bovec to Herman fort. Midway left to point 1313. To summit through forest great. Above treeline path slightly overgrown with bushes, markers very faded. Path follows nicely anyway. Return from summit to Čukla over Goričica pasture to Bovec. Today too bearded vultures sky dance.

31.10.2024/My quiet wish fulfilled. Wanted ascent Rombon untouched path, vertical direct valley to Rombon no marked paths. Today beautiful day realized ascent border line WWI Italians Austro-Hungarians,,Crazy/Invaluable/Unforgettable. Descent used some hard shortcuts too.

Today 31st December finished Rombon tour. From Zavrzelno 8am start warm not like Dec. Boys overtook to Čukla. No one Rombon. Decided not Naklo gully but from Čukla steep old chain preserved once used. Remembered summer descent there. Little snow no trouble. Rocks better grip didn't trust chain fully. Then to summit via scramble edge. Crossed snow patch nothing. 12:40 summit windy otherwise up. Little snow top. Descent ascent path. Checked Naklo gully snow shady frozen. Winter gear backpack not needed path.

Anyone who's been to Rombon knows it's impossible to get up there in one hour and fifteen minutes.
