Polovnik Traverse

PIRHOVEC 30.4. 2022. In the morning I didn't even exactly know where we would go with Maksij. Somewhere where there won't be too much walking for him. Where he hasn't been yet. In Drežnica I turned into Magozd. Then along a nice mule track to planina Douc or Dolec. Both are correct. Walking really pleasant. Path snow-free. At the pasture I decide to go towards Pirhovec, although Veliki Vrh tempted me. We go up off-trail. We stick to the ridge. Below the summit we reach a path that's still visible. Warm at the top. Somewhat gloomy views. They would certainly be nicer a couple of days ago after rain. But you can't have everything. I already thought no one would be behind us. A few hikers arrive. From Čezsoča and four on the same path as Maksij and me. We descended on the path, because I was curious about its condition. Still traceable. And from planina Dolec on the same path to Magozd. Nice tour. With quite some elevation gain, although Pirhovec isn't even 1661 m high. A panoramic summit and worth a visit. Quite a few ticks in the forest. Snakes probably still sleeping. The river and blue sky beckoned me. The restless wind offers me its hand.

Last year I liked the ridge so much that I put it in the club program nasmeh Of course with a warning that the tour is long and demanding, but at the same time very beautiful and scenic. There would really be more views in sunnier weather, but it didn't spoil the mood - even more, the general opinion was that maybe it's even better this way, because the sun burns less cool

p.s. there are really loads of ticks. Partly seems this year too... partly... Polovnik is generally known for that.

Well, it's quite long... but in 2 parts it would be two shorter ones, but still long cool

Don't scare people too much, it's true that in the opposite direction it's less strenuous, since less elevation gain.
Normal hikers can do it comfortably in 8 hours (net walking).

I'm not scaring, but not to underestimate either. The "recon" was longer anyway - full loop velik nasmeh

Anyway about 9h walking, and 400 more elevation meters from that side, so roughly matches that estimate. Anyway I calculated 10-12h total and it was more on the "lower end".

Traverse of Polovnik ca. 17h. Whole ridge, descent to pl. Zaprikraj, from there to pl. Predolina and descent on unmarked hunting path along Slatenik towards Čezsoča. After ca. third of descent messed up, no continuation of trail beyond stream bed anywhere. With difficulty back up to Predolina, then towards Utr and from there already in dark, with headlamp, nicely easy on marked, no other. Tour start and of course car there too in Log Čezsoški. Unforgettable...velik nasmeh

On May 1st, Maksij and I repeated the tour from Magozd to Pirhovec. We had quite pleasant weather. Somewhat muggy, had to change on the top. We made the ticks happy, as we were the only hikers. No snakes seen out yet. From planina Douc we went as last year along the edge. Then below summit caught the still visible mule track. At the top we were in sun and really pleasant warmth. Descended on mule track to see how traceable it still is to planina Douc. Continued to valley on ascent path. No snow on path anymore. Just some patch here and there. Just right for Maksij to cool off in the snow.

On Friday I'll already take some pics of the Polovnik ridge and hide my bike a bit above Drežniške Ravne.mežikanje
On Saturday start early on the path Log Čezsoški - V. Polovnik - Vrh Travnika - Nad Pečem - Špik - Pirhovec - V. vrh - Krasji vrh and descent to the bike then Drežniške Ravne - Jezerca - Magozd - via STKP to the car.jezik
Regarding the path predecessors have described it all, somewhere nicer, somewhere not visible, ... definitely long pants for nettles ... long if no transport on the other side, cuz even with bike it's dragging, still quite some ascents along Soča.eek
Otherwise gorgeous day and solitude to Krasji vrh, some chamois far off and only one viper on the path.mežikanje

Polovnik traverse is really one of the very nice tours in our hills. Congrats. Like a true Drago, well planned return. We had issues on the return because from Krasji vrh we went to Zaprikaj alpine pasture instead of descending to Lovska koča, from where there's a nice path on the north side back
to Log Čezsoški.

Nice, congrats! I traversed it with a friend just on Tuesday, but in the opposite direction. Weather was a bit worse regarding the views, but it was nice for sure. We had really completely wet grass the whole time and every step had to be 100%. @bos, was it dry on Saturday? I'm attaching some of my photos.

Trobec, to the valley after a good two hours we arrived almost at the end. Hunter's path, which is poorly visible at times, goes higher.

dleskovec, I don't agree with you that there are few interesting descriptions on this side. Everyone tries in their own way and writes a post. All posts here are interesting with descriptions. After such writing, one wonders why even publish anything else?
