Polovnik Traverse

palček plezalček3. 04. 2017 00:33:56
On 30.3. I left mini 'pony' at the trough and headed towards Krasji vrh. From there along slightly exposed ridge, snow-free on south side and still white on north up to ridge cut, to Veliki vrh and on to Pirhovec, Špik, Vrh travnika, Veliki Polovnik and after 7.5 hours down to Log Čezsoški. Back to Drežniške Ravne very quickly thanks to three kind locals who drove me parts of the way. From village to car walked a bit more nasmeh
Beautiful tour for days when vipers are not yet so active as in warmer months.

Last Saturday June 17th we traversed Polovnik from planina Zapleč to Log Čezsoški. For this path we needed 9h effective walking. Van took us to planina Zapleč. Road drivable esp with 4x4. Path itself nothing special just fitness and water are important. To Veliki vrh sometimes search for passage and scramble a bit.
Really lucky with weather. Not too hot and breeze along the path.
Toughest part descent to Log Čezsoški village. Near end when think it's over still almost 1000m drop. Path fades towards village but find way. We lucky arrived right where van waited.
Saw lots flowers (gentians, auricula remnants). Two golden eagles in air, scared viper and some chamois on path.

Parked near Čezsoča and up pathless on hunter trails to Polovnik ridge. Continued to Pirhovec. Great view. Descended back to west Polovnik summit and quick down mulattiera to Log Čezsoški then 3km back to car.

On Monday 18.5. we walked the second variant of the path. Since we were four, we left one car in Magozd, the other in Log Čezsoški. We started hiking from Magozd along the mulatiera. Known to me and Marjan. Then to Pirhovec along new paths. Let me tell you, whoever walks here, should save the path on their phone, because further from Veliki Polovnik it gets lost. Only then you'll find it, otherwise you'll just wander in the forest. Another section lower down is harder to follow. Further to the village, as someone wrote, the path drags on. It descends slowly. Nice tour, where we didn't meet anyone. Lots of flowers along the path and quite a few caverns. We walked 18.5 km and 1500m elevation.
Here we start walking.1

I think the better variant is to start from Log and ascent along the mulatiera, which is well visible from the main road, end of the tour in Magozd. In this case it's much easier to follow the ridge off-path in the forest. Also from Log there is a, albeit very ruined, mulatiera, which is easier to follow uphill and brings us to Travnik.

The ridge after the summit is steep, but there's still some snow on the north side, but it doesn't hinder the traverse.

Sunday was more than suitable for this tour. I'd rather not imagine it on a sunny July day nasmeh
Snow no longer a problem, no snakes yet, almost no ticks either. If limited to 1 car...it's long nasmeh And on descent via Slatenik it quickly became clear why almost no one uses this variant. But anything but boring nasmeh

That's a good conditioning tour. All congratulations. We did it last year in two parts. Just we had way too many ticks. I didn't hesitate anymore and got vaccinated against tick-borne meningitis. In the second part, when we went with two cars, it didn't help anyway, because the keys stayed in my car in Magozd. Then a local from Log Čezsoški drove us to the car. There are always good people when you need help. nasmeh
